Default '00 S-type V8 won't start?

Has been off the road for about 6 months, started it a couple times a week for the first five months then just became too depressing for me to go out and start it over the last month, so finally able to get it back on the road and it won't start.

Lights come on, steering wheel comes into position etc. when the key is put in the ignition, and the needles on the speedometer/odometer/whatever they are all kind of go back and forth. There is also a clicking noise coming from the engine area.

I have little to no knowledge on cars so any advice as to what this could be and/or how it can be fixed would be greatly appreciated.

Thanks!

You have little car knowledge and have a 12 year old Jaguar with over 100K miles??

I think you would be wise to sell it and move on.

In a situation like this one, always start with the usual suspect - the battery. These cars require massive amounts of battery power just about full-time. Once the battery weakens, the S-Type typically begins to throw false codes or simply will not start....

If your battery is in good shape and fully charged I would look at two possibilities: faulty or locked starter (expensive to fix) or your fuel pump.

There's a primary mistake. No car needs or benefits from being started a few times a week while in storage. Leave it alone undisturbed, unless you're going to take it out for a nice long drive each time.

The battery is probably now toast. Start there.
