I've purchased this 2001 Type S Jag and the wipers did not work. I replaced the (20 amp) blown fuse and they worked fine for two or three times then the fuse blew. Replaced the fuse and it blew again. I have the heated wiper park knob on the dash. I've seen written elsewhere on this forum that the wiper relays could be bad and to replace them to see if that makes a difference. Which position are those two relays in the engine compartment fuse box? Would one or both relays cause the wiper motor fuse to keep blowing? I have not seen any obvious exposed wires that could cause a short. Thanks for you input.

If you are going to work on your car please get the JTIS and JEPC these have ALL the factory information in them.

They are both free on this site. So spend some time and get them installed you won't regret it!

In the front distribution fuse box you will find 3 relays. R13 is the power wash relay, the other 2 are for the wiper speed and wiper park.

Your problem could also be the motor itself.

In looking through my owners manual it lists the fuse location and what its for but I don't have that information for the relays. What is the location for those two relays? I noticed too that fuse #13 is missing, 40amp. I will call the local Jag for those two relays and swap them out and will post back to see if that made any difference.

yes, sorry. I have an 01 V8 (I thought that I had it listed in my profile) and my wipers are not functioning either. I jumped in here but I don't have the heated wipers button. I'm actually got a bigger problem listed on another thread on this forum but this is just a little pain in my rear. Mine just stopped in the midle of working. Bug juice still squirts out. my fuse was blown too and I've replaced it but it blows everytime I go to use my wipers. Go figure.

 

Ok, in the front distribution fuse panel, relays 1, 2 and 13 control your wiper system. They in turn are fed by fuses F23 and F24 inclusive in the same panel.

The system is controlled by the general electronic control module.

Which fuse is blowing?. Let me know and I can get you further along the path.

 

I will check the relays during my lunch hour today. I've seen in the forum where people have switched the two relays and the problems went away. WOuld I be swapping numbers 1 & 2 to see if that might do the trick? Of course installing the new 30amp fuse that keeps blowing. Relay #13 shows up as the Headlamp washer pump relay and # 11 & 12 show up as the heated windshield relays Left & Right respectively.

 

The 30A fuse you refer to is F24 and is for the power wash relay R13.

Unless someone has put in a bigger fuse before you got the car, then that would be the place to start.

 

really bizarre. yesterday the wipers decided to work on me for no reason. Then this morning I hosed off the car and went to turn on the wipers and nothing. just got to work and they came on once again as if nothing was wrong. it's too early to tell if the water played anything to do with it but it's really too bizarre that they work after several days of not working and I've not done anything different.

 

You should now be looking for a loose connection along the circuit. Start with outside the car first.

It could end up being the stalk.

 

+1 to loose connection at the wiper motor or short to ground... water intrusion is certainly a "player" here...
