Congrats!!!!! I am glad to have been "part" of your project. I think we have all been there, where we drop a screw onto the bellypan at one time or another!!

Rick,
I got a question for you. Do I need to change "upper intake gaskets" when you change the spark plugs? I'm not planning to change the spark plugs yet, but I want to know.
Thanks,

Some will say to change the rubber upper intake gaskets, some will say no need. I did just because I don't ever plan on removing the intake again. I also replaced the 100k spark plugs at 42,000 miles because now I am set for the "life" of our S Type as far as plugs go. Search around the different dealers to find the best price on the uppers (I think I paid around $70.00 for all 6).

Good Luck

If they're properly springy and will DEFINITELY not leak, don't replace them - but you risk re-doing the job. I HATE re-doing jobs, but you may be different lol

I'm getting that oil burning too on my XJ8 2003 VDP.

Is the process somewhat the same to replace those IMT O rings?

TIA

Do you still believe in that theory after my discovery? (As far as gasket sources).

Oh and the XJ8 has no IMT rings, you need to look elsewhere for the source of your oil leak. It's strictly a 3.0 v6 thing.

Take care,

George

George my post #43 was back almost a year ago and at that time I did not research the Fel-Pros since I replaced my uppers even a year before I posted #43 here. I know aleast Auto Zone, NAPA nor Advanced did not have any aftermarkets available when I needed them in 2009.

Hey did you get that R from Tina?

Those gaskets have been there since the start, for the 3.0l duratec contours / tauruses escapes. Eventually SOME of the parts suppliers (and I) figured out they fit the Jag Duratec as well.

Tina hasn't had the car long enough to want to deal. 11g's as it sits broken gas gauge and all. 9700 with the gas gauge fixed didn't seem to float her boat

AS you said... give it time, she'll come around!

Take care,

George

ant it may be the passenger valve cover gasket leaking onto the exhaust manifold and getting into the cabin via the cabin/pollen filter.

It didn't get into the car, but I saw smoke coming from the driver side VC area.

I don't know where it's located for v8. There might be better Technician who might have better knowledge. As far as, I know v8 don't have IMT O-Ring issue like v6. But again, I could be wrong.

There are no IMT O-rings on any of the V8 engines.

Default I have the exact same issue - I am also so new at car DIY

Youll see they have 2 8mm bolts each that hold them in, take out the bolts and pull the imt vavles strainght out after you disconnect the electrical connectors. Take off the oring on each 1 and replace with the green jaguar ones(the green is a sealant)
now if it is your cam covers it will still be leaking after you replace the imt orings and then you can spend the serious money!
Good day,

Please be forewarned that I basically don’t know the 1st thing about car engines and may very well make you weep with my intense lack of knowledge.

My late 2004 S-type 3.0 V6 has this exact issue. Just an extension in my query which is not within my sphere of knowledge:

Could the oil leak also cause loss of power/laziness unless fully depressing the throttle - after a backfire suddenly all the power is available? Spark plug covered in oil?

The leak is worse at idle - and only when engine is at operational temperature. At the same time I get a flickering oil light, which like the leak, disappears the moment I touch the accelerator.

The car has 161,000 km on it with one previous owner and a comprehensive maintenance record with the agents

Thank you in advance.
