Default 05 SType 4.2 naturally aspirated , Engine oil leak sudden

Started commute of 1 hour each way last month. This weekend noticed oil all around bottom pan bolts. Are there any common easily identifiable oil leaks on this motor?

Pan leaks are not that uncommon--it is relatively easy to replace the gasket.

Not common, but not unheard of.

I thought I had an oil leak at oil pan bolts by oil filter too. However, first I very carefully degreased entire engine with spray foam (Walmart), rags and long pipe cleaner type brushes (Harbor Freight). (Steam cleaning seemed way too risky with electronics, etc) After cleaning, I found a hairline crack in plastic thermostat housing that was leaking a little coolant down front of engine washing oil residue along with it. So I couldn't be sure if it was coolant or oil. This may not be your problem, but carefully degreasing engine was best few hours I spent. The coolant leak was so small I couldn't even see its source before cleaning engine. I can now see exactly what is going on and catch any problems fast. I got my 2004 4.2 NA at 90,000 miles and someone had apparently replaced leaking valve cover gaskets, but never cleaned up engine. So mine was pretty greasy. But now I love looking at and working on engine since it's so easy to see what's really going on. An additional benefit: no faint burning oil smell from engine anymore. Just a thought....

Did you try to tighten the bolts?

Just a bit of a snug up might help.

As was posted above the V-8 is not known for oil leaks but of course they can happen to any car.
