Default 2000 Jaguar S-Type V6 Please Help

I have a 2000 Jaguar S-Type that I depend on. I just recently replaced the spark plugs and they helped a lot. I believe I have a vacuum leak, and a bad 02 sensor. Any direction would be greatly appreciated, because I cant afford a mechanic. I pulled the codes and heres what they said. CODE: P0171 , P0174. the rpms bounce, and frequently occur when I use the A/C. Thanks for your time in advance.

Did you check the famous vacuum elbow under the manifold when you did the plugs?

exactly what I was looking for. I will check the O rings and vacuum lines. When I find it, I will post pictures of what it was. Thank you very much. please take a look at this picture of my XJL V8 that has a leak from where my finger is pointing. I believe it is leaking A/C coolant (not positive). it is in service mode. will pull the codes as soon as i get home.

The part being pointed to in the photo is part of the thermostat housing on the 4.0 Litre V8 and can seep if the cap is not sealing fully or if the housing has a crack. The original Jaguar part is made of plastic, but there are aftermarket housings available that are made of aluminium.

Getting to some of the bolts securing the housing to the block require an 8mm crow-foot style spanner to reach around the inlet manifold.

To add - if you go the route of replacing the thermostat housing cap w/ plastic replacement - remember to tighten only to 8Nm (6.8 ft lbs) with a 10mm hex wrench.

In his title line he has “2000 Jaguar S-Type V6 Please Help” Are we talking about a V6 or a V8?

first of all, thank you all very much! Ill start with the V6 2000 S-type. It is 40 degrees right now so it is hard for me to dig too deep into the motor. I replaced one vacuum hose and the difference is night and day. When it gets warmer I will replace the rest of them. I bought a 3/8 plastic joint, 3/8s hose, and clamps. all for around 10$ at autozone. posting pictures of the hose that was my problem.

now for the 1998 XJL V8 non supercharged, I have pulled the codes. I will post here and in the correct section of this forum. It said: P0302 , P1313 , P1316 , P0302 , P1316 , P1111. It is in restrictive performance mode. The jaguar dealer wants 200+ dollars for the thermostat tower. With all the information you posted about tightening it down, makes me want to order one from ebay. I am a novice mechanic, but I am quite the handy man. The crows feet tool and lbs of pressure is something im not familiar with. But, I dont want to waste a day, or wait for it to come in from the UK. what do yall think?

1998 jaguar XJL V8- I dont believe it is cracked, because the seeping begins at the very top of the thermostat tower. Maybe just buy the o ring and cap ??

Check your plugs and replace if necessary. If you have oil in channel you will need to replace gaskets related to the valve cover. As for the coolant tower if you are handy with tools you can do this. I will attach a link on how I did my XK8 4.0.

It would be time better spent to replace the thermostat tower with the uprated aluminium one that also has a metal cap.

You can also see if the current plastic cap is correctly tightened, but due to expansion and contraction, I have yet to see one that does not leak!

Richard WTG on the 3.0. All the vacuum lines should be replaced, as you now know they get brittle and crack over time and are a common problem reported here.

Use one of the forum sponsors here to purchase replacements most offer discounts to the members. You'll be looking somewhere under $200.00 for all the vacuum lines and less than a half day replacement.

Crows Foot wrenches can be found anywhere tools are sold:

that is an awesome link Mr Gus. I will definately use it when I get the aluminum tower. Maybe this will help yall guide me through my quest. Jaguars are not a pain if you have the money, but I am a little tight right now. Just trying to get it focused on running. Only replacing what is necessary. I dont believe my hoses were as severe as yours pictured in the link. I am going to buy a 10mm hex and see how bad the O ring looks. Then ill run to the dealer and buy a ring and possibly gaskets. ill post a picture with closer look at the tower, I believe mine has more severe gaps than yours did
