Default 2001 S-Type AM radio reception...

...or rather lack of it. It hasn't really bothered me as I mainly listen to CD's BUT has anyone had this problem and know of a quick fix? Thank you.

One negative review of the 2001 s-type from edmunds.com was that the reception on the stock radio sucks. Upgrade to an aftermarket radio and you will seea big difference.

My reception blows, I don't think manufacturers spend to much money on AM internals for our carradios.

If you have tinted windows, the AM reception will suck.

Also can be caused by a broken integral wire in the back window or the antenna module.

Most common though is the tint.

My 2001 has tinted windows and a sucking radio (AM), is there any hope at all; or what can you do?

Install an external antenna? What other possibilities are there?

if your am signal is not locking onto the normal stations but jumping pass them , then you can try disconnecting the battery for about 10 seconds and reconnect . this should let you get your normal stations back .

My fuel pump went out and while looking at fuel pumps on rockauto.com I noted the following as part of the information on a Bosch fuel pump:

Noise suppression coil virtually eliminates radio frequency interference

I thought that was interesting, but didn't buy the Bosch pump, because it was only about $1100. I bought the Airtex pump and rebuilt my unit for about $100.

What was interesting after getting my car running again, is the radio doesn't have anywhere near the RFI problem that it had. The radio is understandable most of the time. Now I guess I'll have to shield some of the antenna wires, but I still might try a different antenna.

I think that Jaguar knew about this problem and just didn't let us know.

Jaguar has known about this from the beginning. Here is some info from way back.

My dealer made it sound like the problem was with the tinted windows. I actually complained to several different dealers with no success. Too bad I wasn't aware of those documents in 2005.

Many dealers are poor at knowing about the cars they make so much money from

Fast forward a couple of years and my back glass was broken. Last week I bought a used glass and installed it yesterday. The new glass is not tinted and now the AM reception is great. So I guess the problem with mine was the tint.

One other test to make. See if the reception is any worse if the rear defroster is turned on or not. Any break in the defroster wires will affect the reception too.

The window tint hint is correct so if possible have non-metallic window tinting installed.

Does anyone even listen to AM anymore?
