Default 2003 S type R

I just put new struts on but I used ones that don't have electronics. Now I have a CATS fault. this will not hurt anything will it. I don't want to unplug the module because I fear that messing up the system.

will it hurt anything to just leave the fault showing. This car makes me paranoid. I've had it for less than a month and I've had every fault come on in the car and have spent hours probing wires to find one broken one behind the bumper.

The loom behind the bumper is a known issue, a real pita to find.

I'd disconnect it. I think that might get rid of the error message but don't know for sure.

I belive you can "fool" the module into thinking the cats struts are still there.

I'm not sure exactly how but seem to recall it was by earthing the strut connection wires but DONT do this until someone more knoladgeable says it's ok

I did the same thing. I disconnected the module in the trunk and then disconnected the battery for about 30 minutes. Nothing has changed except I don't get the CATS System Fault message anymore; and its going on 2 years for me since I did it.

my concern is that if it is unplugged and eventually I decide to put electronic struts back on I will have to have the computer reset by the dealership. I can live with the code showing but will that eventually effect something with the computer system. I've never had a car with all of this much electronics and am learning as I go.

Hi, as the other guys have mentioned - in the trunk (lower left side) you will see a black box labeled ADCM - Control Unit - disconnect both harnesses and tape up both harnesses with electrical tape to preserve the integrity of the harnesses.

If you decide to go back to CATS struts then yes, you would need to have the dealer reset the ADCM module to erase the codes that are stored. They don't go away with a simple reset or touching both battery terminals together. (believe me - I tried) Thanks

I think if you wanted to fool it you need small value resistors connected in place of the struts. Ohm an existing one or two to see what values should do.

Or unplug as above

Since the codes are already there, a trip to the dealer to reset it would be necessary anyways if you go back to CATS struts. Whether the module is unplugged at this point or not won't make a difference except that you won't have to look at the error message if you do unplug it.
