Default 2003 S-Type R Amplifier Compatibility Questions

I just bought a 2003 S-TYPE R Jaguar, the Cd, Radio, and Navigation all worked, except there was no sound, all the fuses were good and i removed the main amp (2R83-18C808-BA) in the trunk on top to the cd changer, and it looks like water got in it and need to replace it. My question is, can i use an alternative or does it have to be the same one? i did find one on the internet from an X-Type it looks exactly the same (4X43-18C808-AC), same plugs in the back, can i use this one, or any other suggestions? Let me know, thanx

Be aware that JTIS is not always complete or completely accurate. (Don't know about this situation.)

I would guess that since the wiring looks the same, it was "probably" pinned the same in the plugs. Alot of auto companies, use certain items across models or years. I could see them doing this with an amp, but truthfully, I think the only way you would know if it works, is if you tried it. It will either work or it wont.

Might be safer to look for an S-type that has it for sale.

my Jaguar has the Premium Sound, also does (X-Type 02+), (XJ8 04+), would 4X43-18C808-CA be kool for my 03 S-Type R? They look exactly the same, and same inputs, and my AMP number is 2R83-18C808-BA , thanx

It would likely work.

One way to find out. You could probably make it work if it only needed a tweak here or there anyway.

So you a sure your factory amp is fried?

yeah my factory Jaguar Amp is def fried, i took it apart, it looks like the previous owners let water get in there, its burnt with green corrosion on the bottom of the motherboard, i'm gonna buy the Amp from the 2004 x-type and see if it works, both have premium sound and it looks identical, even the same plugs, cause them things are expensive from the dealer, they want $1000 for that Amp, thatz alot for an Amp!

Yeah that does sound like a problem..LOL

I agree that is way too much from the dealer. Good luck, hope it works out for ya and let us know if it does. I'm sure this info will come in handy to someone else eventually.
