2004 S-Type 3.0 Fail Safe Mode
Hello everyone!
I have a 2004 S-Type 3.0 that entered into the "Fail Safe Mode" twice yesterday. The first time I was driving maybe at about 5mph going over a speed bump and my car seemed to go into this mode.
It had a transmission fault, an abs fault, and a dsc fault come up and there was no power to pull the car out of the way. I placed the car in park and then tried to shift, but it wouldn't go out of park.
I turned the car off, pulled the key out which was followed by a few "ding" sounds, let it set for 30 secs and then it started right back up without any lights or problems. I was reaching low on gas and was actually on my way to fill it up, had the radio on, A/C on full as it was 110 degrees F. out. I had driven the car for about 30min, let it set for five and then drove it for another 20 when it happened. The second time was after I let it set for about 15 min and then started to drive it out of a parking lot.
I found a similar thread for I think an 05 Xj that seemed to sound like the same thing, but I wasn't sure if any of the other conditions would cause it to do this? I just don't want it to happen to me out on the highway
Any and all help will be greatly appreciated!
Thanks!

Try to reproduce the sounds so you know what the car "thought" was wrong. E.g. turn off engine, put gear stick in neutral & remove key. You really need to figure out which warning it was so try lots of things.
Otherwise.... it's probably a failing battery.

Thanks for the tips jagv8. I've tried to reproduce the issue today, but so far I haven't had it happen. I'm just worried that it will do it to me on the highway, as it seemed to lose the power steering as well as power to the motor which would be a little scary.
I am going to have the battery checked by Autozone to see if they can tell, but I've seen a few people say in the forums that places like Autozone and Advanced said it was good and it turned out to be going out. I'll give it a shot anyways.
Thanks again!

Swagger is it the factory Jaguar battery? Our factory battery lasted 5 years 2 months, and we live in a warmer climate. A low battery (weak) will wreak havok on the sensitive electronics.
What type of battery did you replace it with? That's an excellent lifespan for a battery. I have a Jag battery in mine, although I have no idea of whether or not it is original.
