Hi ,I am having a problem with my S type R ,been running great then suddenly started missing , Its ok when it first starts then within ten fifteen second it starts to miss.
I codes p0351 354 357, a bit odd two on one bank and one on the other checked the plugs and coils and also wiring plugs onto the coils swapped them round but still get the same codes.

You seem to have already confirmed that it's not the ignition coils (as you swapped them around and still got the same codes).
Thus, hoping it's not the ECM, start with checking the wiring and the connectors (corrosion of connections inside of connectors can cause a lot of issues).

Thanks for your reply ,it's been suggested possible crank sensor fault but I don't see that causing fault on three specific coils only.
Wiring plugs look good no sign of corrosion .seems like it could be ecm switching or bad ground .

Chances are it will be one of the things listed in the Jaguar DTC PDF. Free from JagRepair.com - Jaguar Repair Information Resource

Don't the codes give you a cylinder number the miss is on? You may have the same codes, but did the codes shift to a different cylinder when you moved the coils around?

The last digit of the codes were for cylinders 1, 4, and 7. Interesting that he didn't have the typical "misfire" codes P0301, etc., which indicates low power from that particular cylinder. Not sure why that would be. Might be worth a little more research. The codes he had were for an electrical problem on the supply side to the coil, and not necessarily the output.

One thought, since coils were swapped around to nil effect: Are you positive about the cylinder numbering? I forget how the late model V8 cylinders are numbered. Anybody have that handy?

1,3,5,7 bank 1, 2,4,6,8 bank 2

Unusual to have DTCs for both banks unless something in common (battery?) or unknown history

Here are published definitions and possible causes from the 2003 DTC Summaries manual:

When I see codes like these that affect both engine banks but share the same possible causes, I think one of those possible causes is probably the culprit. In this case, for example, perhaps there is a problem with the ECM to ignition module primary or ground circuit for all cylinders, but that the ECM is only triggering DTCs for three cylinders for which it is, perhaps, most sensitive.

It is also possible that the coil wiring harness is damaged, affecting only these three cylinders.

You can easily measure the supply voltage to the ignition coils on the Red wires with White tracer stripes. They should all have the same supply voltage with the engine running.

The coil power supply ground wires are Black and should have low resistance between any coil connector and a good body ground and should not be shorted to any of the coil Red/White wires.

The trigger side of the coil circuit would be most easily tested with an oscilloscope to view the voltage waveforms as the ECM grounds each coil to fire it, but testing this side of the coil circuit is dangerous since ECM damage could result from even a minor mistake.

You can also inspect the ignition coil wiring harness. Often the most vulnerable point is where the harnesses bend at the rear of the engine and where the coil harnesses wye into the main harness.

Another possible cause of these kinds of codes would be water ingress in the ECM electrical connection and corrosion on the connector pins.

You can download the wiring schematics here:

Don

It may be a harness problem, chafed/chewed.
