2005 STR Spark Plug Change
Hi there, what is the recommended interval to change the factory plugs?
Also any recommendations in brands of plugs? I've always used Bosch in my vehicles. Any other brands work well with this car? Also, should I stick with platinum? I see there are Iridium plugs for this model as well.

I believe Iridiums are whats recommended so I would stick with those. Densos and NGK's seem to be the popular brands. The change interval is 100000 miles but I changed mine at 75000 just because. I wouldnt wait till the 100000. You could always pull one and check it out and decide from there. There is a nice video how to in my channel the link in below in my sig and will show you whats involved.
I changed the plugs (and my coils) with just over 50,000 miles. I was having misfires and was trying to find the cause.
I installed Iridiums by Denso. The original plugs still were in great shape and likely would have gone another 50,000+ miles
The cause of the misfires was due to a clogged cat.

I've always found that if you have iridium plugs and you've taken care of your vehicle, changing the plugs at anything less than 120,000 miles is a waste of money. The Denso iridium plugs in our Lexus SUV still look new at nearly 118,000 miles. The Motorcraft iridium plugs in our S-Type still look new at just over 65,000 miles. Both sets of plugs are going to stay in these vehicles for a long time to come. I expect the Denso plugs to outlast the Motorcraft plugs, and I won't be surprised if the Denso plugs go 150,000 miles or more before I decide that they're done....
I'm not one to discourage preventive maintenance, but I agree with Jon above, you likely have a good bit of life left in those plugs and think about leaving them be for a bit. At least until 75k if not 100k miles. Pulling one or two just to have a look at the condition is never a bad idea though.

Does anybody have any evidence that the plugs do not last 100K miles? I've never changed plugs on any car earlier than the OEM recommendation- most were still in great shape at that interval and would have been suitable for reinstallation.
