Default 3.0 V6 Maintenance 115k miles

I've managed to acquire the family Jag FOC as a 3rd car for myself which will be used for commuting, circa 5k miles a year.

It's been a great servant so far by not letting itself down. Tyres, brakes and the odd spring at MOT time is all it's needed.

It's not had a service for circa 20k miles now, bit of neglect as it's worthless and the front wings are rusting quiet badly. It also put up a fault recently DSC/ABS and the autobox clunked into gear, however after a day it cleared itself so I suspect it may need a battery, still the original.

I'm reasonably handy so happy to get my hands dirty in changing oil, filters etc. and it probably needs plugs. Does it lend itself to tinkering and any guides for maintenance around ? Are the front wings easy to get a hold off pre painted on the used market ?

See the Sticky posts and then use Search. Not a hard car to DIY for basic things.

Yes probably needs battery. Be nice and change some fluids - oil especially!

You did not indicate the model year and number of miles on the vehicle; you mention MOTs, so I would assume that the car is a British home market version. Being a family vehicle, do you have the maintenance history on the car? The automatic transmission clunking into gear is usually an indicator of the transmission needing service. There should be lots of used body parts at various breakers in your part of the world, it may just take a bit on looking...

BTW,it is customary to write a brief intro in the New Members forum; this will let everyone know who you are, what you drive and will speed up the process of obtaining site/forum privileges.

Managed to purchase a battery from euro car parts, even after discount they're not cheap !

Air Filter also purchased. I need to pick up some oil, oil filter and a pollen filter. I may look at the fuel filter if I get a chance.

Changed the battery and air filter today. credit goes to some of the posts on here regards the work and resetting the handbrake & one touch windows.

The radio code was still in it's original packet, I unfortunately had to open it ! to get the radio going again.

Oil and oil filter change is next on the list along with a pollen filter....if it ever stops raining.

Change the brake fluid as it's probably absorbed a fair amount of moisture in the UK weather.

Check for rot in the sills as this is an MoT failure point.

Bad weather is stopping any meaningful progress on this, I did manage to get it up on a pair of ramps and take the undertray off to see what I would encounter when doing the oil change.

However it seems to have an oil leak which is disappointing. Not bad as it wasn't showing signs outwith the under tray by dripping on the road but the sump etc. has a gloopy layer across it. Hard to tell where it's from but could be the sump gasket ?

Also I picked up a 12mm sump plug which ECP said was the correct size, however it seems to be a 13mm in place. Did they change the size on the 3.0v6 through its vintage ?

The AJ-V6 is a three part engine: block, bedplate and sump. Ford/Jaguar usually recommends replacing the sump in concert with correcting leaks at the seam between the bedplate and sump. Forum members have reported success in re-sealing the two pieces, but extreme caution must be exercised in doing the repair, lest you make the problem worse as opposed to better...

I took the car off the road, due to lock down it's simply not getting used. Managed to change over the oil and filter along with pollen filter which was straight forward.

It needs 2 front wings, ebay has a few NSF in JHV (zircon) but no OSF. Anywhere else to look ?

The rear arches are needing attention also but may tackle these myself with some grinding, filling and painting. Pointers to any guides would be useful.

The car remained off the road and garaged until April 21 when I looked to put it back on the road as we started to lift out of COVID.

Unfortunately the dreaded rust got it. The sills and various other structural points were in need of some robust welding which wrote the car off as a MOT failure. It was fun the short time it lasted but it has now been resigned to the scrap yard.
