Default 4l failsafe engine mode

Hi all,

I've been having a bit of an issue with my engine management light coming on and now this has moved on.

Yesterday, the car went into engine failsafe mode with the Amber warning. Whilst it was like this, it drove like it had a misfire. After about 5 minutes, it cleared and went back to normal.

I did read somewhere that cleaning the throttle body can help this. Is that the case?

Thanks
Mike

Don't clean the throttle body, it will cause more problems.

Check for codes

+1 on the codes! When you get them post the codes.

Thanks for the replies.

My reader struggles to read the codes sometimes.

However, when I go into fail safe mode, there are no codes and no EML.

I did once get the code for throttle body, I can't remember but I think it was 1584.

Thanks
Mike

Install you code reader and drive the car if and when the Failsafe comes up see if the code reader captured the code. As for the P1584 the fault description is “Throttle actuation malfunction”. See if you can capture that or another code and post it.

The pain and cost of having to replace a TB due to a foul up in cleaning (especially as it probably isn't the cause)... Find another OBD reader instead, if need be!

I captured the codes today when the eml came on and amber failsafe mode.

Codes were P1584 and P1383.

Thanks
Mike
