Default Air con

Ok, so my ac compressor wasn't kicking in & was told its because all my gas had gone.

Had it serviced and re charged and the guy told me all good, no leaks good pressure and nice & cold.

The thing is when I run it it doesn't seem to be very cold at all.
The compressor is deffo kicking in you can see the revs drop when you turn the ac on and I can also see the ac compressor pulley turning.

I haven't run it for a very long time as the temp here is cold anyways.

I'm also guessing the ac guy told me it was cold enough because he ran it up with a cold engine where as I'm trying it with normal operating tempreture.

But I'm a little stomped as what to do ?

I'm going to try and run it for 10 mins tonight & see how cold it gets.

You're supposed to run it at least 10 mins a week or better yet leave on auto, to avoid seals drying out and then you get loss.

Engine temp should make no difference to its operation.

I reckon first thing to do is to check its pressure (hi & lo sides) when operating.

Thanks jagv8.

How do I check pressure? If you mean just feel all the air vents at different temperatures I have done & all 4 vents seem to blow at the same pressure.

I'm wondering if that because its cold here anyway would that mean that the ac won't blow as cold as it would in summertime. ?

I mean there must be a thermometer somewhere to control the cabin temperature . So if its reading 1 degree anyway as apose to 20 degrees in the summer will it blow slightly Warmer because it doesn't have to blow as cold to get the cabin temperature to the desired degree?

Hope that makes sense?

Darren

Do I pay someone to check pressure or buy a gauge?

The air con man said pressure was all good?

Also see other threads about diagnosing
climate control
and the like. Of course, refer to JTIS so you understand all the interconnected parts.

Quite expensive to buy gauges but if you really want to DIY...

If your outside temp is 1 degree how would you know that the AC is not working?

As has previously been mentioned, leave the HVAC system in "auto" mode for best results and greater longevity. These Jaguar HVAC systems remain more trouble-free if they are allowed to operate full-time....

Very good point & one that I think is very valid.

So I think I'll have to wait for the summer to test ac properly.

Thanks for the tip.

I do and will continue to leave the auto on permanently.

Default Climate control

Ok so I've kind of posted this problem before but it's driving me mad.

I had my a/c re gassed and was told it was all fine with no leaks etc.

Well the temperature has risen slightly in the past few days on the uk so I tested the a/c. It blows cool but it doesn't blow air con cold.
The compressor is kicking in , I can see and heat that.

Also I have a really annoying schhh noise coming from behind the dash.

Really bugging me any help would be really appreciated.

Darren, you may have read the several posts on A/C issues and come upon the DCCV (dual climate control valve) and other gremlins plagueing out climate control system? Pore through the forum search feature for similar complaints with resolutions. Begin with the DCCV. It often fails, and with it, brings down the CCM (climate control module).

Darren I've merged the two threads.
What temp is it blowing?
Set your climate control to Low and measure the air temp with a digital meat thermometer or something similar.
IIRC you should see something around 5-6C.

Norri, I can't give you an accurate tempt write yet when climate is set to cold. But it feels like a car set to cold that doesn't have air con.
So it blows cool or Luke warm, but not warm.
And when it's set to high it does have heat.

Thanks.

Ok air con deffo isn't cold enough. Tested it against my other halfs Audi and gets gets cold in 30 seconds.

Mine is not blowing hot its just not cold.
The heat settings work fine. All vents blow the same. All angles work.
When I rev engine hiss/ schhh gets louder for a second.

You need to answer the questions posted above before anyone can provide help.

We know you had the A/C recharged. But you posted no pressures so we don't know if it was done correctly or not?

bfsgross asked another very important question about the DCCV as it's most likely your problem or has it been replaced?

Finally Norri asked about vent discharge temperature which we also need to help figure this out.

We are all guessing from a long distance and require your help if any real answer is to be offered??

Mike makes good sense here. The car is equipped with both outside and inside air temperature sensors. If the outside air temp is very low, the A/C would have to be set at the lowest temperature setting. Are the sensors and DCCV (dual climate control valve) operating properly?

Dccv has not been replaced. How do I know if its faulty?
As I have previously said the heat works fine. And all the vents blow the same. And the lo setting blows air which isn't warm.

There's no way I can check Ac pressure? Don't know how dont have equipment?

I don't know how to check temperature inside the car????

At a guess the vent temperature is about between 3-6 degrees.

This schhh noise is now permenent.

Darren, take your car back to the place that "re-gassed" it and get them to read the current state of the freon charge in your A/C system - freon pressures (both high and low sides) are determined by ambient outside temperatures, so the pressures will vary with temperature. They will know for sure if the pressures are "within range" or not based on the ambient temperature.

Sounds to me like you have a small freon leak somewhere in your A/C system (just hope the leak is not in your evaporator core behind the dashboard - and/or your DCCV solenoid(s) could be stuck in the open position (which is a more common issue - and less costly to repair preventing the A/C from adequately cooling the cabin) . I believe the DCCV can be tested by clamping off the feed hoses preventing hot coolant flowing back to the heater core.

Another area to investigate is the temperature sensor by the steering wheel - make sure that sensor is clean and not gunked up with dust, dirt, etc - very easy to clean...

First things first - report back with the pressure readings and info requested above - Good Luck!

Ditto to abonano: Bring the car back to the shop that charged the A/C for inspection. You also may have a faulty DCCV. It's located low under the hood-passenger side. As brother abonano suggests:The "shhh" sound may be an a/c line leak or the blend door-vent actuator stalled in-between allowing heated or a/c air to pass through vents. The S-Type DCCV is problematic and a cooked DCCV also can in turn burn up a section of tracer wires in the CCM (climate control module). The DCCV is simply replaceable ($80) and the CCM is found attached to rear of climate control panel (dash). It can be repaired locally or sent to a company in the sates ($125). Not positive if this is the issue, but a start. Don't worry, we'll knock this out together.
