Default Battery?

May I suggest you ensure your battery is fully charged before doing any other troubleshooting, as weak/failing batteries are often the root cause of many apparent problems with our cars.

Does the S type have frequent clockspring problems like the Lincoln LS?

For your sake, I hope that's your solution. Otherwise, I'm sorry for pointing you in the wrong direction. Perhaps something is just unplugged. You'll have to open it up and look though

I did a brief search and nothing really came up, which is why I asked if it was a problem instead of giving the one of the top 5 LS answers "It's your clockspring" as a statement.

My thanks to FDR, it was a clocksping that went bad. replaced it today andc all my functions are back, her is a breakdown ofthe change for anybody who might need this info. First disconnect batt, reve air bag by removing screws from back of steering wheel. Remove black and grey plugs from back of air bag, slide yellow tabs back and squeeze tabs on both sides and pull up. on lower right side of steering wheel unplug electrical connector. Remove bolt from center of steering wheel make sure you index orientation and steering wheel will slide of of the splines. Remove panel below steering column 4 screws and set aside. remove 2 screws on bottom steering column cover and remove. 2 srcews hold the top panel on remove you now have complete access to the clockspring.remove 4 bolts holding the clockspring in place, unplug the the connector on the left and right side. chnage over the left and right side assembly's to new clockspring. installation is reverse of disassembly. took more time to figure out what needed to be removed in order to access the clocksping. thanks to those who provided me with your input
