Hi all,

I am currently in the market for an S-Type, and was wondering if anyone could give their opinion on how much better the premium alpine sound system is?

Also, would it be possible to put an amp in and upgrade the sound system in a non-premium system S-Type?

Thanks for any response in advance,

Tom

It's much much better, and quite easy to retrofit as all the wiring is in place already.

Ah I see, thank you for the fast reply! What exactly is it that you gain from the alpine system, and is there a thread anywhere outlining the procedure to retrofit one?

Thanks, Tom

Better quality speakers, subwoofers, separate amp with more power, and Digital Signal Processing.

There's probably some posts about the retrofit, it's s been done many times.

There are plenty of cars so I'd just buy one with it in already.

This was Plan A for me at the moment, only I’m looking only for 2.7L Diesels and can’t seem to find any that declare ‘alpine sound system’ on the ad, is there any visual queues inside the car to tell whether or not it has the system?

There are 'Alpine' badges on the door speakers from new if the car has the 'Premium Sound System'.
It has to be said that the main thing that lets down the standard sound system are the Ford Mondeo door speakers. If you change these for a better quality replacement speakers it improves the standard sound system quite a lot.
But bit is still not as good as the premium sound option.
(You can not just change the speakers for the premium sound Alpine ones, you need to fit all the premium sound parts, the amp and the sub woofer included.)
