Another IDS/SDD problem
Normally car diagnostic software an me are going quite along but SDD is quite annoying
So I have downloaded SDD v130 complete as a Virtualbox image...
I installed it in virtualbox the OS is win XP and I set the time and date before 2012
The Mongoose is reconised by SDD and i can read my VIN and then the program sais okay your car is older then 2005 so use legacy IDS.
Fine so I click on the legacy link in explorer.. I see a little window with loading IDS.
But then its gon and I still on the screen where I need to choose IDS..
Who knows what I am doing wrong..or maybe is going wrong.

i have the same version and had same troubles. It should go directly to the screen with all the modules after reading the vin. 131 is better. I use 145 now. It is the last version to have all the programming files i think. I do not remember version 130 asking to go to ids but that was a few years ago. I might have 131 or 145 on google drive if interested
Nevermind if it's working it's good for me car diagnostic software does not change a lot with their versions....mostly all the interface are out of date
yeah i got lucky a few years ago and got a genuine drewtech mongoose for 150. Never has glitched at all
Original is always the best...I've bought a Chinese one....it looks as the original one

i have one of those too. Had good luck with it. Only once did it glitch out during programming. Luckily i had an older session that i had the vid block saved and bailed me out
That's annoying but hey it can happen everywhere it's software and hardware....it is always tricky I ve seen it at my job
I think it was a power glitch because i was using a battery charger before i got a smooth power supply. And yes it was very tricky until i got to learning it better. Not dealer tech qualified but very comfortable using it
As I have a 05my facelift car that uses SDD so I have not had any problems.
However, I think I recall reading somewhere that this may be a Mongoose driver issue, but this may be wrong.
Basically the IDS software has to recognise the interface as an approved Jaguar one.
If the driver for the mongoose is the latest updated version then IDS will not recognise it as an approved interface. (This is not an problem with SDD.)
As soon as it switches from SDD to IDS, IDS will look for the approved interface, but it will never find it so just sits there.
Perhaps see if you can revert to an earlier driver for the mongoose, that is if there was one.
However, you may find that you are not be able to use a virtual machine with IDS at all, but only run it on a full windows XP PC with the older driver. (With a date reset when it starts.)
As I mentioned I have not had this issue myself so it could be incorrect information.
Regarding dropping out, yes if the battery voltage on the car drops the software, both IDS and SDD will cut out. This has been known to permanently damage the modules on the car if they are mid-way through re-programming, so should be avoided!
I use a 35amp stabilised variable voltage power supply set to 13.8v connected to the battery via nice thick high power jump leads. (I think Jaguar recommend a 40amp power supply, but 35amp does the job for me!!)

Thanks for the info on the drivers. How do you know which one or version to use?
I have the DrewTech drivers both 32 and 64 bit but have never seen any different versions? Mine are marked V1.1.16.
