Seems in our "modern day" vehicles 4-5 years. I have just replaced to our 3rd battery since 2009 in our S Type. My DD '05 Esclade is also on its 3rd battery in about the same amount of ownership.

We reside in S.C. in mild climate.

Across several different Jaguar models in recent years, I've had to change each of them between 4-5 years. I usually buy one owner 'approved used' at 2-3 years old so I get plenty of opportunity for testing this theory!

Regular use of a CTEK is reputed to extend battery life but I can't claim to have found evidence myself to support this because I don't keep a vehicle until it then needs another replacement.

My 2014 XJR is still using the stock factory battery. Car went into service on September 2013. So it's about 8+ years old.
Can't believe it's lasted this long. I have a volt meter and watch that for symptoms of it dying. I have left the car for over 6 weeks at the airport before and it started right up.

I guess the company paid? I'm thinking you could've bought a new battery for the Jag, + an uber to/from the airport for the cost of 6 weeks airport parking!

Well that's very true and it was my biggest parking bill ever at almost $400!!!
Unfortunately it was personal and I could not expense account the charge.

But when old parents have accidents you simply can't predict how long you will be gone. Looking back I should have driven back home but it's so far (2-3 day drive) that by the time I got there I was afraid my mom might have died.

Turned out she did not but was severely injured (89 year old with a broken hip + other multiple injuries from the fall) and that required weeks and months of rehabilitation that I had not planned on. I figured it would be a week at most and then I could come home.

Even worse was after I came home I had to make another 6 week trip back home shortly thereafter as Mom had to go into assisted living. I had to get rid of all her stuff and get the car and house sold plus get all the assisted living stuff completed so she could move in.

I did drive back for that and it turned into my biggest road trip so far at 2500 miles in 3 days each way.

Using my amazing mind-reading abilities, it seems you really meant to ask how long can one safely milk the life of a battery before getting stranded?

I've got a NAPA Premium in my '02, installed in 2015. I'm coming up on year 7, so am mindful a replacement may be due soon. I run NAPA Premium in all my vehicles and have been very pleased with them.

For peace of mind, I HIGHLY recommend a tester such as an Ancel BA101:

Amazon Amazon

Twice a year, I check the battery on all my vehicles. This tester not only shows the state-of-charge, but also the overall health. When the tester shows "Replace", it's time to go shopping. With this quick and simple testing, I feel I'm getting maximum life from my batteries with minimal risk of problems.

In addition, I recommend a little voltmeter doohickey that plugs into the cigarette lighter. I have one that does double duty with a USB port for charging my phone. The voltmeter helps catch a charging problem early, before the battery runs down and causes trouble. Don't rely on the little battery warning light to alert you to a problem ahead of time.

That is exactly the type of volt meter I have. It has double USB charging ports and a digital display of voltage all in a cigarette plug in type device. Only like $8 or so.
I never have to guess what the voltage is.
