Default Battery location on the 2005 S Type 3.0 V6?

Hello everyone. I bought an 2003 X Type from a local dealer 2 months ago. And this past weekend the transmission went out. So, having a warranty the dealer decided that instead of fixing it for me that they would take the X type back and give me a 2005 S type instead. I had just bought a very expensive new battery for the X. So, I want to keep it put in in the S Type. But in the pics that the dealer sent me I cant see a battery location. So, I'm asking where it might be? Its a 3.0 V6.

Batteries?? Pff, that's so 90's technology bro. You had an X-Type, but this is an S-Type, which run's Jaguar's latest nanofiber solar technology. In other words, we don't have a battery. Our car's surface metal acts as a cell / capacitor hybrid to charge and store our car's electrical needs man. Only one hour in the sun is enough to charge our cars to run for a week of darkness, and anythng else gets charged from conductive breaking when we drive.

...Na. Battery's in the trunk under the floorboard.

Also, consult with others here, ask if you should keep your S-Type's battery or use your aftermarket X-Type.

Thanks! The dealer that I am using gets its cars from a auction. I had to buy the X a battery because it had a Mercedes battery for 9 years ago in it that was 2 sizes too small. So, I bought a really high dollar battery with a 6 year free replacement warranty for it.

It should be a vented battery (you connect the S-Type's vent tube to it) and I think the size should be 353x175x190mm. You can look it up on the net for things like orientation, CCA etc.

Mine needs a pretty high power & large CCA but the figures may not apply to the V6.

Vent tube you say? ...Crap. Mine's not connected and I don't see any connection for it. Damn, does this mean I have an aftermarket battery? Here's an image of it.

The battery works fantastic, never had a problem with it (in the four months of owning Leona that is). What's the beneficial function of the vent tube?

Also, I noticed a cable connector that appears to be sitting sorta' under the battery that I think is unplugged. What is this? It's the little white thing in the picture below. Its wire leads towards the passenger break light housing. Couldn't lift it out without removing the battery.

In your pic the vent tube ought to be about mid way along the far left edge, about where the lowest curl of red cable appears to meet the edge. It's for venting gases safely to the outside rather than let them build up in the trunk where they could (maybe a bit unlikely) cause an explosion or fire. It's akin to why they warn you when jump starting a car or charging a battery (you know, to avoid sparks, have good ventialtion etc).

Looks like you have the tubing and maybe actually attached to the vent?

That wire looks like the one for the transit relay. Make sure it can't short to anything. It's often tucked safely behind the panels.

Ok, thanks for the info and pictures. The good news is that it appears I have the correct battery, it has a vent hole. I don't have the little plastic adapter that goes between the tube and the battery is missing.

I took the battery and spare tire completely out to see if I could find it. Good news, I found the plastic positive connector cover. And I found the screw for the upper battery brace. Right on, baby.

The bad news is that the plastic adapter is gone. So now at least I know what I need.

The unplugged wire is still a mystery. I can't see any plugin area under the battery. Ricky's wife also has the same. The cable only extends to far, and I don't see anything in reach. What is it?

Also, what the freak is this? Been in the trunk area for the longest time.

Should have one on each side, it screws on to hold the side trunk panels in place and to secure stuff to.

Ahh, I see now. I wouldn't have been able to tell where it went because both sides were missing, and I only found one. So now, though, the battery side is fitting better now. I can see these screws are responsible for hooking trunk nets to them and stuff, so I'll definitely want to find a replacement for the other side.

Now to find out what that cable is...

As JagV8 put it above, the electrical connector was in place for shipping purposes.

Remember that our S types were manufactured over the pond. Then they were shipped across the world. Who knows how long they sat in Europe, then in a container, then shipped to their destination.

I would look at hardware or auto parts stores for the 90 degree elbow and the tubing to properly vent the battery.

Maybe I should change my sig. to Ricky. Its been along time since someone called me that. thanks for the smile!

Wow, I'm typically up on car electronics, but I'm completely stumped on what the purpose the connector wire is for shipping? So let's say you're right, it's for shipping. What's its purpose for shipping?

And thanks Ricky, I'll check an autoparts store for an elbow connector.

You're on dangerous ground suggesting Rick might not be right!

We all know how sensitive Jaguars are to battery condition. Part of the PDI (Pre Delivery Inspection) carried out by the supplying dealer is to remove and discard the Battery Isolation Transit Relay.

This Isolation Relay allows the vehicle to be driven when necessary but isolates the battery from the vehicle during transit and storage to prevent discharge.

You can see the connector lead in the drawing - this is the one in you pic.

Now I get it, right on. Yeah, maybe the dealers should have taken some electrical tape (or a premade plastic cap) and put it on the connector so people stop wondering "What on Earth is this for, and why's it disconnected?!".

It's often tucked behind the trim panels. But that doesn't stop people finding it!
