Default Broke something already :(

In my hurry to finish installing a new K & N filter along with the removal of the "trap door" on the side of the air box I pushed down on the top of the air box lid and broke the 2 plastic clips that hold the top to the bottom.

Looking for your thoughts on a remedy for this, I like the sound of the R now as it is a little louder but I will need to do something because to box has duct tape holding it together.

That box comes complete for about $400-500, hit a junk yard cause its sucks unfiltered air without it being snapped down. Or change the duct tape to a diamond encrusted bungie strap from tiffany's

Yet another reason for the DIYers to remove the 1- 13mm nut and loosen the intake tube clamp, pull air box and change filter. Expensive lesson.

try www.car-parts.com for a used one.

www.junkyarddog.com works good too.

Take care,

George

Wow......You guys are fast and with some great ideas thanks very much, I do like the idea of a used air box because the factory one seems to work well , there is something I like about a quiet car that hauls azz.

Just found the info page pertaining to the Mafioso Intake and I want to hear from a couple of members first on any extra HP or additional noise that may also be part of the new intake.

Does anyone have a aftermarket air box idea that I can compare the stock one up against.

Thanks Ya'll

The Mafioso intake seems like a definite winner, but you still need the factory airbox for it. It just replaces the section between the throttle body and the MAF, with a larger more streamlined section that doesn't have all the silencers etc that Jaguar built in to make the car more "civilized".

Take care,

George

My intake Elbow, just un-civilizes the car a little bit.

The gains you will benefit from it, all depend on you. (honest no BS answer not a marketing ploy) All mods. Depend on the condition of your motor whether you will gain or lose power.

Thanks for helping with this topic, first question is : do you know of a aftermarket air box that will line up with your new elbow ; second question. Mated to a stock air box is their a "noticable" sound increase of the supercharger when the new intake elbow is installed ?

Sorry all if the questions have been previously answered.

Cheers,

Scott

with the removal of the "trap door" on the side of the air box
Is he referring to the intake baffle? What's the benefit of removing it anyway?

The baffle door on the bottom of the box on opens during WOT. Giving an extra volume of air in the box. Without it fresh is constantly being fed in at the expense of a dirtier filter faster.

If you watch paleriders video the blower can't be much meaner with out actual blower work. Aka closing off the silencing reciculating chambers.

The Mafioso intake brightens up the supercharger wine nicely. Not at all annoying, actually pretty intoxicating with the windows down. Love it.

IMHO I wouldn't **** around with some aftermarket box. You need the MAF hookup to be correctly mounted and the spacing is kinda tight. Get a used box from one of the places mentioned earlier or I've had good luck with Motorcars LTD for used stuff in the past.

Or you could try to DIY some type of fastners on each half of the box to make a new connection. You'd want to take the whole thing out to work on it. Be creative and you can probably get something to work. You need an absolutely complete seal, no unfiltered air intrustion above the filter.

X2 for what Chris suggests. I was thinking the same...you could rig fasteners that hold the top down as tight as the busted stock clips. This will save ya a few hundred $$.

Hey thanks, I could not agree more ! Right now its held in place with a cord wrapped tight to ensure there is no air leak but the answer is to replace the box. Funny I have set off the code P0128 a couple of times now so possibly the tightly wrapped cord is still leaking.

Thankfully I was informed by the members here to go and purchase a scan tool for $40 bucks so I can check and re-set my own cel lights.

Er, P0128? That's a coolant thermostat issue isn't it? I don't see how that's related to any possible air leak.

The ECU could care less if the box was completely open because it knows about nothing before the MAF.
