Default Camshaft position encoder changing

Hello,
i have a problem with the camshaft with my S-Type 1999.25er 4,0 V8.

i have installed a used camshaft, the number is the same to the original.
unfortunately i have found out that the position encoder is a wrong one.
how can I change it?

This TSB is for the AJ26 engine but the idea is the same for the AJ28 engine with 5 lobe reluctor vs the one lobe on the one in the bulletin.

Ok, this is interesting, unfortunately it does not help me with my problem.
I have to change the reluctor, because the distribution of the reluctor has changed in one MY, the camshaft is the same.

The AJ26 has a ONE lobe reluctor.
The AJ27 has a FOUR lobe reluctor.
The AJ28 has a Five lobe reluctor.
All on the back of the intake cam.

The reluctor apparently can be removed by sliding it sideways and replaced by another?
I never tried it but it seems likely.

Ok,
but, help me when i am wrong.
In the S-Type is always the AJ28, right?
The first motors, up to M45254 have the timing ring: NRA2612BA with Five lobe. from M45255 the timing ring is NNE2613DA with 4 lobe.
And that is the problem at the moment, i ned the 5 and have the 4 lobe ring. Even the position of the lobe is absolutly different.
OK, i will make me a tool to disssamble.
Thanks, Volker

Just swap the old 5 lobe to the replacement camshaft?
Remove the 5 lobe to see if the part can be swapped, the original cam is already faulty.

Default done

Hello,
I have exchanged the reluctor.

It is only pressed and can be driven out with a few blows.
then i have seen that it was one from the AJ27 wit 4 lobe.

To insert it, heat the camshaft to about 150 degrees and put the reluctor in the freezer, then the two parts can be easily put together.
Greetings, Volker
