Default Can't apply parking brake

2005 S Type 3.0 the temperature dropped to 10 degrees Fahrenheit and now I get the "can't apply parking brake" message. The car starts fine but I read that it can be an issue with the battery. Does anyone agree with that?

Thanks Mikey. If I change the battery will I have to have a code for my radio? I don't have it and how can I get it?

I personally agree with it. But in my case the parking brake was engaged and I could not unengaged it.

Did you try the recalibration procedure?

No radio code needed for North American vehicles.

Thanks Rick, I tried to recalibrate but didn't realize I had to unhook battery and the go through the procedure. Will try later on this afternoon, hopefully that will fix it.

I don't recall having to unhook the battery for the EPB calibration.

The procedure that I followed was this. With gerarshift selector in the PARK position, turn the ignition to the ON position. Press the brake pedal and at the same time pull on the EPB switch. Release the EPB switch by pushing down on the switch. But after I did that I read on the forum that you have to take the ground off of the battery for about 30 seconds.

I know its in the stickies here somewhere. Joyce has her vehicle and the handbook is inside its glove box. If you have a problem I can look it up later when she returns from work. I still do not recall having to disconnect the ground (earth) though.

Tried numerous times to calibrate with no success, I finally disconnected ground at battery and reattached. Started car and display said to apply foot brake and EPB, did that and all is well. Now the radio doesn't work, radio display is asking for code. I bought the car used and of course no manual or record of radio code. Will I have to go to Jaguar dealer to get code or is there some other way?

In my case.. the radio code was the last 4 digits of the radio serial number, reversed.
That was for both of my STR's.

Checked my STR, and the radio code is not related to the serial no. After reading about EPB problems on this forum, I regularly clean and lube the cables & levers for the EPB, and made a copy of the instructions for EPB calibration:

1. Reset the EPB module:
a.. Switch off the ignition.
b.. Disconnect the battery for 30 seconds.
c.. Reconnect the battery.
2. Start the engine.
3. Firmly apply and release the foot brake five times.
4. Confirm that the message "NOT CALIBRATED" or "APPLY FOOT AND PARK
BRAKE" is displayed on the instrument cluster message centre. This indicates
that the parking brake is in calibration mode.
5. Lightly press the foot brake pedal.
6. Apply the parking brake by using the EB switch.
7. Release the parking brake.
8. Release the foot brake.
9. Confirm that the brake warning lamp is no longer illuminated on the
instrument pack and that the "NOT CALIBRATED" message is no longer
displayed in the message centre.
10. Apply and release the EPB five times to ensure no error is present.
