Personally, my '02 has been phenomenally reliable.

How many owners did they contact? How did they find them?

Plenty of room for bias, accidental or not.

I am not surprised. Both of our Jaguars have required far more DIY repairs from me than any other vehicles we have owned. And we have both been driving since 1969....

The report is spot-on regarding the lousy plastics quality, particularly in the engine bay....

That said, we still consider our Jaguars to be gorgeous automobiles. My wife's 2006 XK8 Victory Edition remains her favorite car of all she has owned....

Whereas I've had almost no problems and at 135K only had to change one bulb.

+1. Same here, but spread over 50+ years across 30+ cars of 20+ models. Very reliable, but meticulous maintenance is the key. Market here sees many a good but used Jaguar fall into the hands of those who have spent all (or more than) they intended, with nothing left for maintenance, who then drive the wheels off trying not to waste money on extras like oil, filters etc.

No wonder that within a few short years, the car becomes less reliable and, on close inspection, needs humungous parts & labour to get it back to tip top condition. If you doubt this, then read a few thousand posts here . . . among them, you will find many from enthusiasts who share the love sufficiently to seek a resurrection, but also, many more from those whose motoring would be better served in a no-name buzzbox.

My interest is also piqued in who they surveyed for the article, how many, and how. I wasn't but was anybody here, anybody at all, asked? My bet is NO . . . rather surprising as we are an obvious and sizeable group with genuine first hand experience. "Clickbait" says it all . . . a first rate opinion piece by an unknown, masquerading as a survey result.

Cheers,

Ken

Coolant tanks - 3 still leaking
Complete headlamps unit due to broken perches. Thankfully the warranty.
Front headlamp bulbs twice. A real PITA. This is an industry wide problem though Jag's design has put the capital P in Pita.
Oil cooler hoses Looks like replacements only last 2.4 years.
Tranny cooler lines.
Speedo
Turn signal stalk
Gas tank sender gauge Thankfully on warranty.
Sun roof drains

Pre-emptively changed out DCCV since it had everything out.

Coming up ... under SC coolant hose? ... I doubt I'll get to skip that

Yes these are nice riding cars and with the SC great power not so great mileage. But they ARE more fragile than my previous cars.

We also have terrible roads here.

I do not drive this car in winter conditions so it's getting babied.

The wordage looks like it was written by a teenager?
There are no Vauxhalls in there, a major omission.

Agreed, typical anti-Jaguar propaganda. Jaguar has made huge improvements in reliability and quality from its bad years in the 60s and 70s. My 2000 continues to run great and continues to collect compliments on its beauty and performance. Cars with complex features have more problems than simple, basic cars. My 2000 continues to be the most satisfying and one of the most reliable cars I have ever owned.

I don't see "reliability and quality". My F-type was in the shop 9 times for non-maintenance reasons, so far new differential, new gearbox. Thankfully warranty lasts for 2 more years.

I knew what I was getting into with Jaguar, but claiming that things got better since bad days is simply not true in my case.

JLR vehicles are by no means unique in having their share of particular vehicles that have multiple repair issues.

I have personally owned more than fifteen Jaguars over the years and have yet to experience any of the 'legendary' electrical issues or mechanical breakdowns. Those include vehicles from prior to the BL days and beyond.

I had an Audi A4 (B5 chassis) that left me stranded on the side of the road on more than one occasion with stuck thermostats, shorted alternators and a ruptured hydraulic hose to the clutch slave cylinder. It got to the point that I couldn't trust the Audi for more than just short trips while my X200 I could feel confident taking it anywhere.

My 2 year old BMW 545se in 2007 and 2008 had the worst record of any car I've ever owned. It was appalling. I got to try out several different loan cars when it was in for work. The vast majority of the work was warranty work due to electrics and software problems. One was a factory recall but I was told wasn't available foc because my car was out of its service contract and out of warranty. Yeah a £350 new design of sump with a few more hundreds of pounds in labour was not worth paying for. The reliability wssnt there in any measure at all.
Maybe it was a rogue car? But I never had any problems with my previous four BMWs which didn't have the I-drive system and I don't think that was coincidental. New isn't necessarily better.
Knocking Jaguar is rather clichéd now, the rest aren't any better. For a few years Audi was floundering in the bottom 5 worst brands for reliability.

No one has forgotten Toyota's multi £££million global recalls for dodgy electrical components in recent years.

Double edged sword here. My '02 (built May 2001) only has 108,000 miles, and looks practically new...but alas, it had/has been plagued with almost every ailment my peers on this forum report. Rather than list them all, the latest is the throttle body, which after a year of P1584 and P0065 codes, is being replaced. The only repeat issue over the years is the AC and front defogger.

On the other hand, the S-Type may have made this list merely based on the volume produced. Higher sample rate I presume.
