CD Changer Questions
'06 3.0 without the item in question. There is the recess in the trunk with door and nothing else. I'm entertaining the idea of adding such a unit.
A cursery look shows no holes or what could pass as hidden-behind-the-material mounting brackets.
Are these cars prewired for these items and if so, where might they be?
I did a search, but found nothing there answering my questions.
Or am I just plain out of luck

There are mounting points behind the liner. Also, the harness will accept the changer, in other words, it is prewired. Here is the tough part. From the looks of a "factory" equipped car, they probably used a different liner. In order to add the changer you will have to cut it out. I'm sure that is also what the dealer would do, since it can also be bought as an accessory.
I recently called the local dealer to find out the cost of a changer and associated labor. Uhhhhhhhhh $1100-1200. That ain't a gonna happen.
Soo, yesterday, I went to the local Pic-A-Part looking for the "needle-in-a-haystack". A late model S-Type with the changer (I can dream can't I ???). Of course, nothing there.
BUT, that parking lot had more cars in it than I have ever seen. It's about 2 acres and it was about 80% full.
A sign of the times ?? Probably..
Time to start callin the other yardes...

JayT2, a lot of the wrecking yards are part of a network and you can input your request for a part (CD Changer in your case) and if someone has a car with a changer in it, they can pull it out and send it to a yard close to you. I can garantee that it will be less than what the dealership wants. Can probably even get the necessary liner parts too as part of a "package deal". As for what it would cost, that is very dependent on what the originating yard thinks it is worth.
I normally find that going with an aftermarket unit is normally much cheaper. Granted, I can understand the desire to maintain the factory pieces.

Thank you for all of your responses.
It's a lease car so I don't/can't put too much into it since I'll only have it another 3 years unless I buy it then. (My first year anniversary was last Sunday).
I thought of an aftermarket unit, but the dealer said it was connected by fiber optics and will need to be programmed by the dealer. Hence, I'll probably have to stay with a factory one.
I will be contacting those places, but I've heard a few negative things about ebay..(I belong to another auto site and a couple of guys are having trouble right now with their transactions).

JayT2, as for E-bay, all that I can recommend to you is before you purchase anything, send the seller a question about their return policy and only bid on those items where the seller responds back that they have a 100% return policy if the item is dead on arrival. That way, should anything happen, you can shove that e-mail back in their face and get your money back. I would also recommend waiting say a week after receiving the new CD changer before submitting any feedback. That way, if you end up fighting with them, you can submit the appropriate feedback.
As for an aftermarket unit, what I would probably tell you to do is to mount it else where in the car. I know for my car, because mine has the built in Navigation, I am more than likely going to get rid of the ashtray and mount a single DIN radio there and then run the other aftermarket stereo stuff from that point. Granted, being a lease vehicle, might be more hassle than it is worth. Up to you. I know for me, music is a vital thing that I must have in a vehicle.
