Check Engine Code p240c
I have a 2006 Jaguar S-Type 3.0 with approximately 70k miles. The check engine light came on the other day when I turned my car on and started to accelerate. Typically the car will hesitate a little on the initial acceleration after a cold start, never thought too much of it. Took it to an Advanced Auto Parts to have them read the code, and was told they had no idea what the cause could be. They couldn't even look it up in their system... so much help from a store in the business of auto repair.
The check engine code is: p240c E-Vaporization Emissions System Leak Detection Pump Heater Circuit High.
Just looking for any possible causes and fixes. Haven't had any luck searching the internet either. The car sounds and feels like it is running perfectly. Any help is appreciated. Thanks.

First go to a different parts store. I like AutoZone. Then get the codes read again and BE SURE to get the codes cleared while they have the reader hooked up!! You must get a repeatable code before you can troubleshoot the problem. Don’t let them tell you they can’t or it’s illegal. All they have to do is punch the button that says clear. I have had to show they guy what to push before as there is no qualifications to sell auto parts and the people range from excellent to sub-moron!
One other idea. If you have been feeling a hesitation don't let it go. As you read more on here you will find that is usually a misfire and they only get worse with time. The misfire is not the problem so much as when it gets worse and is not repaired you can damage the catalytic converter which is kind of expensive to replace.
Also the V-6 has a list of problems but the good news is they are all pretty small and can be fixed all at once. Again I would read up on those problem here on this forum.

UPDATE: Took it to a Jaguar dealer, they said a pump which sucks air into the gas tank to maintain pressure to check for leaks failed. $850.00
Also, what do you mean by "don't let it go" when referring to the hesitation?

Any chance you can get your receipt and post back the part number? If anybody gets the same error code I don't think they will know what part you replaced.
Any other comments on the ticket might help too.

I think the code is for the pump heater that's part of the fuel tank leakage detection assembly. I'm not sure when these were first fitted to the S-type. (Don't think it's fitted for UK.) Maybe 2005-on.

Update: I am supposed to get the car back on Monday. I will post all the details once I receive them. I hope to help any others who encounter the same problem.
