Well, I had to do a bit of research since this code wasn't on Racers list. I've since updated the list.

P1857 Transmission Transfer Case Contact Plate 'C' Short Circuit To Ground

Never heard of such problem...might be common, might not. We'll let the techs help out.

Probably doesn't get you much further forward but here's a breakdown of the characters within the codes for you

Jim

The first alpha character identifies the system generating the code P = Powertrain

B = Body

C = Chassis

U = Undefined
The second digit says if the code is generic - same for all OBD-II systems - or manufacturer specific
0 = Generic (zero)
1 = Enhanced (manufacturer specific)
The third digit is sub-system type for that code
1 = Emission Management (Fuel or Air)
2 = Injector Circuit (Fuel or Air)
3 = Ignition or Misfire
4 = Emission Control
5 = Vehicle Speed & Idle Control
6 = Computer & Output Circuit
7 = Transmission
8 = Transmission
9 = Reserved
0 = Reserved
