Coolant type and interval
Does everyone stay with the factory coolant type (Dexcool) and change interval? I also have a Land Rover Discovery and the opinion in that circle is that Dexcool after long intervals is responsible for various engine problems including headgasket failures. Opinions?
I did find a thread RE: types and mixing. My concern is really the interval. It seems that any coolant will change PH over time and become acidic. I intend to get some PH test paper and determine for myself. It seems 100,000 miles might be reasonable, but in my case that will be as much as 8 years or more.
You are correct. The 2005 Jaguars use Dex-Cool. Change at regular intervals. No the head gasket stuff is a myth. Don't mix coolants or you could get into trouble. My 2005 STR now has 72K miles with one coolant change and it's still very clean. When I had a pin hole leak in a heater hose I reused the Dex-Cool.
