Default Cowl Scuttle: Removal Necessary??

On my 2004 S-type V6, is it necessary to remove the cowl scuttle under the windshield wipers to remove the upper intake manifold? I saw a video posted that made it appear that the intake manifold can be removed without disturbing the plastic cowl scuttle, but it looks to me as if it might be necessary (or easier) to pull the wipers and remove the scuttle. What do you guys think? Thanks, Carl

its easier but can be done without. the hardest issue is disconnecting the IMT connectors.

I'd remove it for all the time it takes.

The biggest problem with removing cowl is the cross brace. Many times those bolts arerusted and seized snapping off in the process. It happened so much we just got in the habit of not removing and potentially adding more work to repair to drill out bolts.spray spray spray if your going to remove. The end bolts extend into the front wheel wells, another reason they rust badly. And if you get them out be sure and lube the thread for the next guy. Which may be you again down the road

Thanks, guys. I made a preventive removal of my WW arms a couple of years ago, just in case. FWIW, I found that to be far more difficult than expected. I broke a WW arm puller and had to get a heavy-duty general-purpose puller to get them off. I then coated the posts with anti-sieze, so when I want to remove the scuttle, they will come off easily.
