Default Diagnostic tool recommendations

I am looking to purchase a diagnostic system for our 2001 XKR and 2004 S type 3.0 vehicles. Has anyone used or know of anyone who has used the "Rugged Computing" model that is currently listed out of GB on Ebay? It indicates that iti is a dealer level diagnostic kit with programming and is preloaded on a used Panasonic laptop.

Also does anyone have any experience with the Auto Enginuity diagnostics.

I currently have an Autel 802 max but it seems only ODB II complient. Thanks for your time and advice.

Mike

Much cheaper to get a Mongoose aka Mangoose. Read existing threads to save you time. Use any of these dealer-levels tools with great care as you really can need a tow if something bad happens.

I personally like the tool from OBDCOM. (obdcom.com) Works with a laptop, great for $87.95 US with tech support.... Not dealer level, sorry.

I use a $40 elm327 wi-fi unit with two separate apps on my iPhone 4s . Apps are (free) obd car doctor and ($25) dash command ,I use it a lot on trips to watch water temps and intake air temps , and is always in the car with me just in case! very cheep set up , works very well for engine related issues ! But will not check ARS , ABS or body or transmition faults , also will not show any positive boost pressure on the STR only vac! And the graphs are quite delayed however does data log!
So I bought an icarsoft i930 unit from ebay ,witch does every thing else the elm327 won't including real time data not graphs with next to no delay ,talks to ECM/body/tranz/ARS/ABS/CATS but I'm only going on there claims at this point as havnt had a chance to play with it yet , it's on ebay for about $160 usd, and claims to be the best value scanner for the money , and thay have tested it on an wide selection of jaguar models ! I will post my findings when time allows

Have you had a chance to see if the iCarsoft i930 will read the air suspension codes as well as some of the other modules you typically wont be able to communicate with using a standard OBD2 tool?

The i930 during an auto scan will test all moduals ! it showes witch one out of how many it's checking ,
But it seems picky on a manual scan as to wether it will comunicate with that specific modual or take a code!
It won't take codes for a broken cats shock absorber wire on a 03 xkr on auto or manual mode!
had to test the loom on both sides of the boot to find the broken circuit that leads to the rear shocks so I knew witch shock to remove , once I removed the rear shock to repair the broken link wire , inside the rear strut tower , and got it back to gether I started the engine to see if the dash light and message had gone and had left one of the boot/trunk pluges off and forced an ABS light and code as thay shear the same plug .
The I930 scanned the ABS modual no worrys . It told me witch weel sensor was open circuit and removed the code fine when I refitted the plug, were as it wos not nesersery to use a scanner to put the message center suspension fault light out the car done that itself as soon as it started up after wire repair and all plugs pluged in !
So so the i930 was good for something and possably more things in future .also it does do rolling graphs of about five sensers at atime thay are quite responsive too ,
So am unsure if the cats adaptive suspension modual can be read or reset buy the i930 ?
Maybe it would if an exelerometer for the suspention went out ! One things for sure it does do more than just the engine modual!

Does the i930 read the four O2 sensors separately and the the output voltage on each.. Can you watch the system go from open to closed loop and detect what sensor is bad ? I have an 0420 code from the ELM327 (catalyst) and not sure if it's upstream O2, down stream O2 or the converter.. Thanks

Yep it shore dose it tells you volts of bank 1&2 upstream and downstream
And if the downstream O2 senser heater is activated on/off
But it sounds like a cat failure not an O2 Senser failure in your
Case ! However the p0420 is down stream 02 cat monitor senser !
Would usually mean clogged cat converter
