Are you asking seriously?

Perhaps a 30 sec search would yield results, you may want to check the engines development also.

Now, be nice, we want to be kind to our little, Ford-related, brothers...

Quick answer for the X-Type crowd, 3.0 V6 is the same as the X-Type and is a modified Ford unit, V8 is a Jaguar/Ford developed engine.

Prior to the '03 (?) redesign the transmissions were Ford, after that, the V8s at least got a ZF transmission.

But that's actually a good question, what about the transmissions for the S-Type 3.0 engines. Are they the same as the V8s?

And for the <somewhat> less technically informed members of this list, you should visit the X-Type list sometime. Due to the "design" issues of that car, that list has a long, long, history of very deep technical analysis and reflection on Jaguar mechanical design and implementation.

Thanks, Pab! Is it much easier to repair Ford transmission. Parts can be a few times cheaper. I am thinking about buying S-type with bad engine or transmission. I don't want to repair German transmission.

Yep,

Up to the X202, about 2002 MY the S had the Ford 5R55N transmission. The 6 or 8 had the same trans.

The X202 6/8/R, has the 6 speed ZF, same as many Ford, Euro cars.

Each and all has their own little issues, and most are fluid drain and refill (lack of is what I mean) related.

Then you will be restricting yourself to a pre-2003 S-type. Not a choice I'd make.

Agree with Mikey on this one. Consider the 2003 and up S Type. Many improvments but the car looks about the same.

What???? The difference to a pre 2003 is substantial;

Growler emblem on grill not bonnet
Dash design a sleeker version of that on an XJ, as opposed to the awful Ford dash
Electronic Parking Brake
ZF 6 speed auto box
Lighter yet stiffer body/chassis
Several suspension mods
Seating as per 3003 XJ
etc etc etc..........

No comparisons :-)

To anyone but the observant it "looks about the same". I think that's on the basis of looking at a car rather than at its very detailed specs. Mikey did say it had many improvements, as indeed the later (2002.5MY-on) cars have.

Now I've got a curveball question: I have the 2003 with the 5-speed manual trans, only year it was made. Who made mine?
