Default Does the sport button affect transmission life?

If you want the car to last as long as possible, should you leave it in sport mode, or normal?

I've heard softer, luxury-car like shifts are actually harder on the transmission because it slips more. Would keeping it in sport mode all the time help? Or is there no real difference?

No one knows. It's just too hard to tell. I don't think it causes any problems or Jaguar would not have put it in the car?

Still some arguments about exactly what is different when you are in "S" mode.

My 2005 STR has been in "S" mode since I bought it 5+ years ago. Can't cause to much trouble!

Use sport mode for around town city driving, normal on highway/trips.
Not certain if it makes a difference with the life of the trans but I notice that the car performs a little better and that should make the trans happy too?

With the 4.0 worry instead whether you have changed to the revised tensioners!

Sport will raise line pressure and high line pressure makes boxes survive better - but give harsher shifts.

That's definately on my short list of things to do! However, it's not as easy as pushing a button on the console!

Nobody really knows if it hurts or helps. None of the affected parts seem to reached their life limit yet.

Or if it really does anything useful...

...and using cruise control on highway trips will override the Sport mode.
