This could be because one of the micro switches in one of the door latches has failed. The car will think that one door is still open.
As the drivers door gets the most use it could well be that one! These fail because of the multipl inpacts when shutting the doors a few thousand times.

I am not sure, but I think a faulty trunk/booyt latch may also cause this same fault as well??

While seated in vehicle, push the lock door button and watch each door locking lever. The lock actuator that does not lock will be the one to replace.

In the ,How To" guides in the S Type subdirectory has both front and rear replacement procedures with nice color pictures.

I have the same problem right now. Does your key work in the driver door lock? My lock cylinder is messed up and wont let me insert my key all the way. Therefore when I try to lock the doors they try to lock, then unlock. (I hadn't used my key in a long time and didn't know the cylinder was jammed.)

I checked things as Joycesjag said and found the lock button on my drivers door inside is not working, not activating and the door doesn't lock.I can feel a resistance pushing on it .Something is jammed inside and I suspect a mechanical problem and not electrical.

You are in luck. Long time member Rob did a write up in replacing the drivers front lock actuator.

https://www.jaguarforums.com/forum/s...ide-faq-31104/

There is a plastic gear inside the lock actuator that has failed. Scroll through this DIY to understand what happened. Avoid the mistake I made, purchase a new actuator and not a used one!

Can the rear trunk actuator cause the doors to lock then unlock? Repaired all 4 door gears and they are now working but they unlock when locking
