Default Driver side window won't go up or down- help...

Hi everyone. Last night I went to roll the window down at the drive through and it was going up and down very slowly. Finally, it totally stopped working. You can hear the motor in the window working but it's like the window is nolonger attached to the motor. I can move the window slightly by hand, but not enough to roll it up all the way. Unfortunately, this happens the one week out of the last few years where it's raining cats and dogs in CA.

Anyhow, what's my problem and how hard is it to fix. I know how to pull the door panels; I installed a speakers in the rear doors last week.

Car is an 02 jag s type 4.0 with 58k miles.

Be aware you can use the Lincoln LS part in your 2002 model. The regulators are all over EBay. Should be pretty cheap to do. Here is one for about $50.

just got on at the autozone with a lifetime warrantee for $87. Not having a car for 5 or 6 days was gonna suck so I just bought a new one. Are there any how to's on this or is it pretty straightforward?

got it done. Took about an hour including swapping the front door speaker to an infinity. Total cost, $95 after tax.

I agree. The best way to extend the life of those window regulator units is to always close your doors with the glass rolled all the way up....

Many of us have experience with this repair. Obviously the lifts are poorly designed (designed well for the parts side of the business I suppose). My other complaint is the front door panel retainers also come apart easily. I was told by both the Ft Worth Tx and Palm Beach FL dealers that the broken retainer parts can only be purchased with the door panel. After the second regulator replacement on my right front I need some new parts. Anywhere I can get the yellow clips without the entire panel?

I may need to do this myself. I apply car wax to the windows so that the regulator and motor work less during the up/down sequence.

Not sure what clips you’re talking about?? The door panel pins are available separately but I think you are talking about something different??

Any chance you can post a picture??

The white post slides into the yellow clip. Three or four yellow clips per side. I'll try to figure out why I can't attach and post a photo tomorrow.

I think that is what the door pins mentioned above are inserted into. Does the yellow piece go into a hole in the sheet metal on the door? The pin should be removable from the yellow seat. They are VERY tightly coupled.

Remember these pins are shared with the Lincoln LS. You have the option to find a junkyard LS and rob some door panel connectors. The only difference is the Jag version has the little black foam collar as in the pictures posted. I have had the door panels off of both cars and compared them carefully.

Thanks for the advice tbird6! I didn't think to check the Lincoln.

I have learned (the hard way) to remove the panels carefully. Silly that you have to buy the entire panel to get a new one.
