This code is listed as the following:
P1385 Variable Cam Timing Solenoid B Malfunction

This does NOT make sense because you list the car as a 2000 S Type. The S Type did not get variable valve timing until 2003 and later. So something is not right?

Can you unhook the battery to clear all the memory and then drive the car until you get the check engine light? THEN get the codes read again. Remember any AutoZone and other parts places can read the codes for free.

Of course I don't know where you’re from so maybe that won't help??

I also have a 2000 Jaguar S-Type and does show both P1385 and P1388 along with the catalytic Convertor, but I am more concerned in the first two, you said that as a 2000 Jaguar s-type I shouldn't get the P1385? What do you mean? I have it.
My second question, just unplugging the battery only will reset codes? or I need to wait or do other steps? car drives good, only gas is around 16 MPG when 70% of my driving is HWY and using Super gas.
Any ideas?

It's a good point. The VVT valves are shown in the Electrical Guide and those codes are in the codes PDF, both for your year car.

I also had the Codes 1385 and 1388 on my 2000 Jaguar S Type 3.0L. After some reading and investigating I found the problem. The solenoid valve attached to the VVT (in my case Bank 2, which is easily accessible under the plastic cover on the driver's side of the engine) has a slip on electrical connector. In my case the connector, which normally snaps on by means of small plastic clips (being part of the cap) were broken, so the connector was not secure. It was also a little oily, as it is positioned (under the plastic cover) right next to the engine oil inlet/ filler. I was able to secure it with a cable tie (on a temporary basis) but would require a new female connector. Any idea where I could buy a new connector which fits to the VVT solenoid (see photo which shows the male and female side of the electrical connector side-by-side)

Jag VVT solenoid connector. I need to replace the part which contains the red female plug

Worst case I reckon any wrecker (scrapyard) will have them.

The Zip tie should also be a suitable solution (maybe not the best visual one though)
