Default EGR valve bypass?

All this hassle with the EGR valve and hose. Aside of the legalities curious what would happen if I just did not replace the valve and just blanked off the holes and connected the hose through??

hi
I'm sure unless you get it mapped out, you will just keep getting fault codes
as it can tell with sensors that the egr is not working correct because you have blanked it off
cheers

Also:

Your cylinder temps would go up, possibly doing damage (are you feeling lucky?).

Your MPG would go down.

I suppose (well, hope!) timing will be affected, so less power.

Datsports..aka Andy has an EGR delete in his sig..

I'd be interested in how to how he did it. I'm not sure if he is living with a P0400 code or has found a way to right this out using a programmer?

It can be programmed out with a flash tune .
It is optional with the old jaguar tune for later STR’s
and I believe viezu also turns it off in there canned tune .
mine is not programmed out . But also it is not deleted ,
it is bypassed so the valve only draws air from the metered air from the intake J-pipe .
i have a restricted orifice inside the bypass pipe which fools it during most driving conditions .
the p0400 does occur when decelerating from very high RPM.
If you don’t drive it like that , The light goes back out until you drive like an idiot again.
defiantly no power loss or timing retardation .
i still get 26-28 MPG when trying .
my intakes , throttle body and charge coolers are still spotless 35000km later .
it does increase combustion temperatures. I don’t know how much by .
Fingers crossed 🤞nothing is melting.
I was not the brains behind this mod. It was another form member if you search you will find.
though I am very happy with the results .
i call it pure preservation . rather than choking this cat to death on its own carbon.

jya-

I assume that since you are putting the elbow and such back on..you kept the EGR intact?

I forgot to mention this would be illegal in UK & EU.

In at least the UK, also be sure to tell your insurer about both the change and any tune.

Without a tune if it causes a DTC then that's an MoT fail as well.

Also an MoT fail if noticed by a tester but given where it is that sounds unlikely.

Goccio,
Can you please elaborate as to what you have done. Not sure what you mean when you say you have the 'EGR delete'?. Was this an electronic delete of some sort? As for the 'stage 1 remap with new injectors' let us know how you did this and what injectors you used.
Cheers.

judging by the power figures given ,
I believe Goccio is referring to a diesel variant .
So not really of reference.
as it’s a very different cat at hart .
