Engine Check Light Turns on when I use Heat
I have a Jag S-Type 2006 ; v8; around 148k miles on it.
During my drive when I turned on the heat , the check engine light got turned on. I went to a good year service and they said they cannot make out the codes. They reset and asked me to get back when it gets turned on.
The next time again when I turned on the heater , again check engine light got tripped on; I got the codes read again from the same place and they said there are a bunch of things. One of them being misfire and stuck me with a 1200$ USD Quote. They turned off the Engine Check light.
After driving 80 Miles, I turned on the heater immediately the dreaded Engine Check light got turned on. I was doing a road trip on sunday and out of no choice drove around 500 Miles after that.
It is obvious that it has something to do with heater and I guess not exactly engine.
Appreciate some idea on what might be wrong. I really don't want to spend 1.2k chasing a ghost.

Sorry for the late reply here. I missed your query when originally posted.
Can you please get the actual codes, such as P0306, P0388, etc. It sounds like the shop only gave you the generic definitions instead of the Jag-specific codes. The codes are needed for accurate troubleshooting.
If the shop won't cooperate, I'd suggest investing in an inexpensive OBD II scanner of your own. You can go even cheaper and get a very basic code reader, but a scanner is much more versatile and lets you read real-time parameters such as fuel trim and sensor data.
Whatever the fault is, it's tough to foresee it costing $1200.
