engine locked up 2002 4.0 s type
Try to rotate the engine by putting a socket on the bolt in the middle of the crankshaft pulley. Turn clockwise.
4.0 engines can lock up as a result of a broken secondary timing chain, or a failed connecting rod bearing. Neither problem can be identified without doing at least some disassembly.
If yours is locked up, you're best off looking for a used engine or selling the car: piece by piece if you can, or in one lump if you have to.

That's a good one...you just saved somebody a car someday.
I'm guessing you wouldn't hear the "clack" when the drive extends, since it's already stuck?

No, and the first one I swore was the engine, except it would turn either way off the crank bolt. The 2nd was a good customer who called me last year over the weekend. I told he she needed a starter(she let me listen on her phone) and come in monday Ide do it while she waited...well she waited alright...2 weeks till she was at the store and needed a wrecker...and her engine was locked up tighter than...her ex husband
That fits the trend, things have been going downhill pretty steadily around here. At first I thought it was me, then the spammers, but now I think it's because of the jokes. So we're both to blame!
