Default Engine warning light on . Any suggestions?

So I go to start my car today and the yellow engine light is on (not check engine light). The car runs fine but we had heavy rains this morning. Btw I do not have the plastic piece that covers the bottom of the engin bay. Any ideas if serious or not?

I'm sure the first post will be from JagV8 telling you to pull the codes then post back... well, I guess I said it first. Sorry jag. lol

But from reading on here the last few months, water after big rains, and auto car washes tends to do that, so hopefully it dries out and will be fine, but the water is getting some ware it is not supposed to get. Start checking all electrical connections, search on here for the common entry points if any. They slip my mind at this point. This is only true if water is the cause. So like JagV8 will say, pull the codes and post back.

Good luck though.

I am not Jagv8, but I agree run down to the nearest BIG box auto parts store and get the codes read for free and report back.

Its possible that the TB (throttle body) had gotten wet, kinda like schultz touched on the first post.

Still storming pretty hard. Will have to wait it out but will head to Autozone when it lets up.

If there are codes they will remain stored even if the MIL goes off.

If you can lift the hood out of the rain, have a see if you can see anywhere in the engine bay that's wet or damp as that may guide you.

Hey Tony F! I too had the orange motor icon lighting up. The dealer found an unsecured connection between the intake plumbing and the mass air meter box; he also cleaned out the intake tract with some chemical process. I've not had the icon light up since (8 months). He of course pulled the codes, which directed him somehow. I hope you get yours squared away pronto!

Got to Autozone. The codes were p1111 system pass,p0300 multiple cylinder misfire,p0301 cylinder 1 misfire,p0303 cylinder 3 misfire,p1316 misfire exceedes emissions. I was thinking of letting it sit in the garage for a few days to try and dry out, as it is going to keep raining for a couple of days. I took the intake tract off and looked at the throttlebody and it looked very clean. Had full fuel service, intake service and throttlebody cleaned last October.

Maybe the #1 & #3 coils got wet. They may be OK or may now be bad. There's not really a good reason to suspect the TB as you have specific codes consistent with it being coils.

They should not get wet, even in heavy rain, so you may like to hunt for whether they did and if so how.

Maybe swap them with others and see if the codes occur again but in the new positions. If so, time for new coils.

Very possible coils 1 and 3 had gotten wet with all the rain that you are experiencing. You cannot change out coil #3 on a 2005 3.0 without removing the intake manifold. Trust me, one tech some years ago said it can be done, but I have 3 hours in trying and there is NO way, well without breaking or cracking it.

I'd let it "air out" if possible as OP mentioned. Would be a good down time to check your IMT's maybe change out the cabin/pollen filter too.

BTW What is the difference between the "check engine" light and the illuminated yellow picture of the engine light being on? If it's a misfire problem why wouldn't the check engine light come on instead? Is one more severe than the other?

Left the car in the garage overnight but the light still came on in the morning. Bought a scanner at Autozone (so I wouldnt have to wait out the rain anymore) cleared the codes and the light went off. It's been dry today so I've been driving around all morning and no light yet. I will see how long before it reappears but hopefully it is gone for now.
Thanks for all the suggestions!
Tony
