I'm getting the beeping noise due to the system can not engage parking brake automatically. The noise is deterrent to driving the car. The EPB lever doesn't do anything and I get the error message in the instrument panel. The brake pads are not dragging as it's been disengaged at the moment.

The EPB motor works as I was able to actuate(both engage and disengage) it by feeding 12V to the motor connector in the trunk.

Question:

1- does this point to the EPB electronic module in the trunk as the fault?
2 - is there a way to disable the error messages with the EPB disabled?

 

When the EPB system in my 2005 S-Type 3.0 failed in the spring of 2015, it was indeed due to a failed EPB module. Have you pulled any codes?

 

A broken cable will begat the relentless alarm, but IIRC, the switch will still cause the motor to actuate.

 

FIRST I would do a 'hard-reset' and then operate the park brake (Engage/Disengage).

Make sure the battery is not failing. Weak batteries can cause EPB faults.

Reverse chronologically:

bob - hard reset already attempted but the car will not go into calibration mode. Battery condition is verified.
Zane - it seems motor is not getting the signal as I could actuate it by feeding 12V to motor connector in the trunk both engage and disengage.
Jon - no codes yet. I'm leaning towards the module at the moment. Did your dealer had to program after replacing it?

 

Codes are in the module. Not being emissions-related they are not readable via an ordinary tool.

 

I utilized my favorite local indie shop, not a dealer. And yes, the new EPB module had to be programmed to the car after installation. My indie did that with his AutoLogic system....

We tried a couple of used modules that were supposedly compatible with my car first. They both refused to make it all the way through the programming process. Only with a brand-new module that was indeed the correct part number and the correct firmware revision would the programming process make it to completion. Very frustrating, but that's what happens sometimes with used electronic parts. Fortunately we were able to return both used modules to their source for full credit. So save yourself both time and hassle by purchasing a new module if it turns out that your current module is indeed faulty....

 

Maybe worth mentioning that most codes in the car are also not emissions-related and need a specialist tool (such as Mongoose).

 

Have you tried to manually calibrate the parts by hand pulling the levers at the calipers? If not I would try to disconnect battery, feed 12v from battery to epb actuator to open position. Unhinge calipers from cables and manually lever the calipers until they reach the disc. Reconnect everything turn key then set epb.
Also, how worn are your epb pads? If they're too worn they may prevent epb from calibrating.

Blackkat - I've tried hard reset to no avail. Pads have full depth of material, they're almost new.
JagV8 - I may have to take it the dealer as I don't have Jag specific code reader.

I can wait until it's warmer outside as it's not my daily driver.

 

Update:
I took out the PB module in the trunk to see what made it tick. You can find it on right hand side of trunk behind the trunk liner.

Then disassembled the module to look at the circuit board trying to see if any component seemed damaged.

I didn't see any obvious issues so I sprayed the connector pins and left the module out of car for about a week or so(I ran out of time that day and forgot about it for awhile

Past weekend I put it all together with the thought of looking at it closer in a warmer weather(it snowed here in Michigan on Saturday). Then everything worked! No issues!

I can't claim I did anything other than freeing stuck parking brake earlier by jumping the connectors with 12V(see my earlier post) and taking out the module and spraying the connector pins with contact cleaner. But I'm happy it's back to normal.

 

Glad to hear that you seemingly fixed your EPB issue with a zero-cost effort. Keep us posted on whether it stays fixed....
