First Jag. Has Issues
Bought a 2002 S type, 4.2 n/a.
It has the much talked about surging issue between 35 and 55. This does not go away when warmed up. Its constant no matter what unless I'm in third or below.
Ive changed the gearbox oil as per zf instructions. With correct oil. And no change.
The gearbox performance otherwise is very good. Although I did get a bad burning smell and Amber gearbox fault, when at speed. Before I changed the oil. Old oil was old, but not burnt and contained nothing alarming and it was seemingly at the correct level.
I could try change the oil again to make sure its fresh.
I'm on a very very tight budget, especially coming up to the holiday season. So a gearbox filter, pan change will have to wait.
I assume this is the lock up clutch issue. And a new torque converter is probably required.
Question, Can I still drive the car until I can afford to get it replaced, will this damage anything?
Car runs great otherwise no other real issues. Although radiator has developed a very slow weep near the expansion tank. Which I think is the actual radiator rather than the common tank failure. Not worried about that as can deal with that myself. The gearbox is another thing.
I have tried to read the codes, and for some reason I was just getting an error message. Tomorrow I have a cheapo elm 327 coming so should get more info.
