I am thinking about buying a genrad gds 3500 or 510 to work on 2003 car. Is it worth buying one of these tools.
I have found a gds 3500 but it does not have the jaguar was just the ford. How difficult is it to add this cd and where would it be possible to get a copy.
Which cables are needed for the jaguar so that I can check that it is there.
Thanks

Lots of reading for you.
The GENRAD 510 was a stand-alone hand held unit that could read many modules but not as comprehensive as the PDU, WDS, IDS etc.

By the time you get a WDS up and running you will probably spend close to the cost of an original VCM. I have a couple more VCM's available and the usual sell price for them is $750 US.
My WDS ended up costing me something like $1300 US by the time I got it delivered to me and working....
Good luck finding a GDS510, they are hard to find and last one I saw for sale had a >$500 US asking price.

There are numbers on the cable ends, the end that connects to the PTU.
I would advise getting to know the machine very well before programming/configuring any cars. You could end up turning the car into a 'brick'. (large paperweight)
When the WDS was introduced, I attended a 2 day training session and still had to call Jaguar Tech Hotline occasionally. If you use it on a regular basis then you will know when you might be in over you head and need some guidance.
