From what I have seen, the electronic park brake releases very quickly. It is more of an on-off switch which seems to not be good if you are on a hill with a manual.

Not sure if the manual box cars are the same as the auto box, but the EPB will release any time the gas pedal is touched. Try leaving the EPB engaged on a hill and see if it releases as you let out the clutch and give it gas. No need to manually release it.

Hi chaldon3, Gary,

Unless specially ordered (UK cars anyway) the manual version did not have the automatic release setup as per cars with the auto gearbox arrangement. Therefore your driving technique has to be different from driving an autobox. So when preparing to move off starting on a hill, remove your foot from the brake pedal and set the engine revs required whilst bringing in the Clutch Pedal, then, when you feel the Clutch starting to bite, manually release the EPB by pressing down on the control switch. You then move off with ease.
Just treat it the way you would with cars fitted with a old type Hand Brake Lever with Button release and all should be well.
Not trying to teach "how to suck eggs" etc., and hope this helps as my S-Type has the same setup and works fine once you get used to it.
Regards,
Inver.
