Default hard shift from 1st to 2nd

All other gears shift smoothly, but recently, going from 1-2 has become rather harsh. Almost like someone gives me a kick from behind. Doesn't matter if it's under hard or soft acceleration.

You need to get your tranny reflashed. Mine had the same problem when it was in "normal" mode shifting from 1 to 2. In sport mode it shifted smoothly through all gears.

But I also got it reflashed because it was doing the lurch.

Since they reflashed, *knock on wood*, it has been as close to perfect as it can get. Smooth shifts and no more lurch.

It's worth the $$$.

Dealership told me it'd cost around $280. My warranty will cover reflashing the TCM, they call me back about the other related modules.

I also just noticed the inner side of the back tire is completely worn. Time to realign that now.

If you are paying $280 for a reflash, then you are getting fair deal compared to what Monte Shelton Jaguar charges in Portland, OR. I hate their dealership anyway though...so giving them even a dollar makes me cringe with disgust.

Got my car back this week after dropping it off for other issues. They did call back about the TCM and ECM as they said they would. Apparently, they've had some changes in management and nobody left any notes. Now they're telling me the reprogramming is considered an "upgrade" and is not covered under warranty. But they also told me I have the latest version of the firmware.

The issue didn't seem to come up when in sport mode until recently this past week.

Had the exact same symptoms (harsh 1-2nd shift everything else OK) on my wifes 2002 STR. Had the ECU re-flash and seems to have made no difference cost 100GBP to have done and i feel its been chucked down the pan. Was told to drive carefully for 200miles and not use kickdown, but really do not see how this is going to improve things!!!

Very frustrating and do not want to blow another 100GBP on having it done again for no result!!!!

It didnt seem to do it prior to my race home with it and the showing off to family with a couple burn outs....

any ideas?
Go get a reflash of your tranny's computer. Drive it in "normal" mode for at least 500 miles after the reflash. (Using Sport Mode in the first 500 miles will screw up the ability of the adaptive driving software to learn your driving style and you could end up with the same problem all over again. Don't turn it on even ONCE during this period.)

That should fix your issue.
