Help rough idle at stop lights.
I have a 2001 s type jaguar it idles ruff at stop lights but drives perfect when moving. I went by auto zone they read me these 2 codes 1385 and 1388 what does it mean and what do I need to fix any help would be thankful
OK, you are NEW, so welcome to the real world.
NO idea on the codes, but I was curious as to what car and spec you have the issue with. Luckily you have a back end snap in your garage, and its a 3ltr, X200 I think, GOOD.
Might be a top idea to add all the car info to your signature, including miles travelled, as some people may not be bothered to "go looking" and simply not reply, even if they know the answer.
My suggestion is the infamous vac elbow deep in the "V", under both manifolds, and well documented in the archives.
Of course it may be spark plugs, coils, grubby throttle body inside bore, O2 sensors, etc.
Someone with the code info will chime in sooner or later I am sure.

Your problem is related to your VVT see the attached code chart.

Get JTIS - free on here - and read. Use google etc to look up technical words.
Or take to a competent tech guy. You're near one of the techs on this site I suspect so just figure who and go

The P1385 code is the VVT solenoid circuit malfunction. Check the connection at the VVT solenoid - make sure the connector "snaps" into the VVT solenoid. (The round part sticking out of the valve cover near the front of the engine. Also, check the harness as well.
If the above checks out - check voltage to the VVT solenoid harness. (Use JTIS for voltage values) - you should get voltage once the car is started.
The P1388 - VVT over retarded is more thank likely a result of the P1385 flagging.
If the voltage checks out - get an engine flush solution like "Gunk" and idle for 25 minutes, drain oil, install new oil filter and put 0W20 or 5W20 grade oil in and sub one of the quarts of oil w/ Dexron Mercon V trans fluid - your VVT oil passages could be clogged.
But my $ is on a loose electrical connection to the VVT solenoid or a bad solenoid (which the latter is rarely heard of)
Good Luck.
