How to clear CATS system fault on dash....2004 STR
Hi All,
I have the CATS system fault and amber light on my dash and I KNOW why.....replaced CATS rear struts with non-CATS struts (Billsteins for Billsteins).
I've read threads on similar issues and have tried the following: removed right side plug in trunk, disconnected battery and re-connected (inc. touching positive and negative connectors after first disconnecting) but nothing seems to work. I read about SDD/JTIS suggestions but they seem to involve diagnosing issues and I already know what mine is.
It seems like it should be simple to clear this message; my ODBC II scanner does not work on suspension systems so I can't use that.
Does anyone have a simple solution which does not involve going to a Jaguar dealership?
Thanks!

Thanks but I already located the control module in the trunk and disconnected the right plug......the other plug (on the left) controls the backup alert so cannot be disconnected. Do you mean something different when you refer to "harnesses"? If so, can you please give me "idiot proof" instructions, I'm not tech savvy at all. and am at a loss
Any help would be much appreciated!

Look for the black box labeled ADCM (usually bolted to the rear body panel - drivers side trunk) and disconnect both connectors...
The 2W93-2C496 labeled black box with two connectors on each side you referred to is your parking aid module.
Different box.
You might as well reconnect the harness you disconnected as you just disabled your rear parking aid system.

And to add since you created a C (chasis) code by disconnecting your CATS system I'm not sure if disconnecting your harnesses to the ADCM will get rid of the CATS fault message.
When servicing CATS system you must either disconnect the connections to the ADCM or disconnect battery before unplugging anything.
I believe it will. If not you need to get the codes cleared from the ADCM.
Good luck.

i repaired a friends rear strut harness a wile back on a 06 xkr .
daft design the strut rotated over time and twisted the wires until they broke .
the light and message just went out on its own ,
however ABS must be reset via scanner .
ABONANO is right un plugging the module will kill the light and message ,
BUT it will
render your front shocks at full rock hard stiff .
so maybe swap out your front shocks first or wait till you do before unplugging the module , or your car will be a back killer . and most likely also affect stopping distance .

I made the mistake of powering on the system while the front CATS were disconnected and set a CATS code. No amount of tinkering (including those above) would reset the system to normal. I finally took it to a shop with the high end (around $10,000) AutoEnginuity scanning system that can access C and B code modules. They were able to erase the codes.
$75 lesson learned. A Jaguar dealer would be able to do the same.

vcm and a JLR SDD/IDS unit . i was feeling lucky . and not to be seen as a liar . and not to say that you are one by the way .
i thought id take up the challenge and recreate your situation .
so i un plugged the front struts , started the car . was greeted with the amber MIL light and a message center saying CATS SUSPENTION FAULT .
i turned the car off . plugged the CATS plugs back in to the struts .
started the car and the MIL was gone and the message center was clear .
just as it was with the XKR.
so this puzzles me a little as to why your car did not clear it self after you addressed the issue . weird!!
