How do I remove knob on Jaguar 2003 S-Type?
Does anyone know how to remove the gear knob from a jaguar 2003 S-Type manual shift?
The knob leather is extremely worn out and I would like to remove and replace. Any advice greatly appreciated.

Don't know explicitly for the S manual tranny, but every car I've had they just pull off, usually I'd try twisting them back and forth and pulling at the same time. Sometimes they have a plastic insert in the knob that helps hold them on.
First though, check around the collar for any little set screws hidden around there that might help hold it on.
It could be threaded as well, so when you try removing perhaps try turning to the left first.

Could you take a picture of the shifter.... They are quite rare but I would guess that Mikey is correct and they just thread on like the auto cars...

Not sure if your '03 is different, but the knob (wooden) is threaded on my '02. The only gotcha is the wrench flats at the base of the knob. Although it looks like it's part of the knob, the wrench flats are actually on a separate jam nut.
If you simply try to unthread the knob as one piece by gripping the wrench flats, you'll actually be tightening the jam nut and it won't budge. Loosen the jam nut first, and then the knob will unthread by hand.

I can confirm what mikewv100 said, it simply pulls straight off as I've just been outside to try it on my UK 2003 3.0 manual.
It's pretty tight so you have to pull quite hard. The gaiter and surround will remain attached to the knob so it's best to unclip the surround first before pulling. It's then just a matter of removing a zip tie to detach the knob from the gaiter/surround.

Hahaha No guys, I haven't been struggling for two years. I have broken things on this car because I wasn't sure how it came off. Paid $$$ to get them fixed. So I figured I would ask those who had a manual stick like my car if they had removed theirs.
So straight up and it will come off.

Hello,
What did you put instead?
I find the original manual gear knob ugly and of poor quality.
I would like to put a wooden one instead but it doesn't seem to exist and Jaguar parts "specialists" do not know a lot about the manual gear knob of the S type.
Up to now, I have seen wooden shift knobs only proposed for the automatice gearbox.
Any advice?
Well I got the knob off this morning. When it was mentioned I had to pull hard, this is true. I sincerely thought I was going to break the shifter!
Once the knob became disengaged, I heard a snapping sound, sort of like those old WWII movies where the rifle runs out of bullets and the little metal flings away.
Anyway, I do find that noise must be from a metal ring that connects the boot to the car. I will take pictures and add them so others will have something to go by.
