I could use some help with this power steering hose
I can't find where it goes. I was pulling on to my street and hear a tink and lost my power steering. I've tried looking through the repair links but can't find it. Not very familiar with this site yet.
Brian H: You are not really helping us much in an effort to help you. Your location, your car's model year and whether it is left hand or right hand drive would be good information to share. That said, it looks like your hose is a low pressure return line from the power steering cooler assembly; High pressure lines are not secured by worm-gear hose clamps. Here is a diagram from the workshop manual detailing the system:
Found this old thread while searching for the answer to my question. New to me 03 STR, under the car doing some other service and I notice this hose with a plug in the end of it. The hose goes in to a metal wye off of the power steering line.
Is this factory and if so why?
Yes on the later S Types there is what I think is a vent hose?
You can see the end is just plugged from the factory.
Here is the entire hose. Note it does not connect to any of the power steering lines.
But where it goes is a bit of a mystery and here is the "T" fitting at the other end that shows it does connect to something.
It's been too long since I had my 2005 STR to remember the details as it has been discussed before. Others have blocked the end like above using a bolt. But I believe there is a filter of some kind in there to keep the dirt out but allow the system to breath some.

Thanks for the response, a little weird, have not seen a vent on the power steering rack/line before. Surprised they did not run it up higher on the firewall.
