Default Inside rearview mirror w/rain sensor fell off!

Our '03 4.2 s-type with rain sensor build in to the rearview mirror fell-off the windshield while adjusting it! The four mounting spots that failed from their location on the windshield are very thin. Rusnik Jaguar dealer in Pasadena says the windshield needs to be replaced! I don't see how the winshield needs replacing just in order to replace the mirror? Am I crazy? They are already getting me for 800 bucks to replace the Parking Brake Motor! Huge buyers remorse!

I have not seen your damage but I had to get mine (2005) put back on the first day I bought it! Turned right around and back to the dealer. Showed what happened and they had their glass guy jump right on it. No problems since 3+ years.

Might try a windshield place instead of Jaguar?

Follow clubs advise above and check out a glass company.

I'm not sure what you meant in your verbage however, I have had every issue known to Jaguar in our 2000 & 2003, from trans lurching issues that Jaguar ignored for years until they got past their obligation to correct to injector, ignitor, cat. converter, numberous (and I mean many) cracked broken plastic parts... I can go on for days... The bottom line, these things are just Ford Motor cars for these years, and I have never had a fraction of the issues with our Fords. It is too bad really, because they nailed the good looks. I just prefere they drive as well as they look, at least for 10 years, but to be this bad right from the start... Like I said "Buyers Remorse" ... Sorry if that offends anyone!

The lurching wasn't ignored for years. It was identified and solved by ZF (the maker of the trans) not least because it affected BMW, Audi and other cars just as it did jags. I suppose you may like to rant a bit but please at least get the basic facts right.

Firehandler, you might want to stay away from Rusnak and find a good independent shop. There's one nearby where I live that you might contact. I don't know which part of the desert in which you live, but if interested, I can give you their name. I haven't had any work done by him, but he's always busy and works only on Jags.

Also, in the "Regional" section "Western US" there's threads for indy mechanics, there may be one near you..

The mounting bracket is supplied with the windscreen, I didn't have any success with having it glued back on YMMV.
THe Ford discussion is for another thread.

I wonder if a 2 part epoxy would hold the ring to the windshield?

Have you had a car before??

This is a BASIC repair! Any auto parts store/Walmart etc has mirror glue in stock. This is a vary simple repair. It happens to all brands of cars all the time. I would have not even bothered going back to the dealer but I had just purchased the car and felt they should do it since it happened so soon after purchase.

I don't know why the other poster has not had any luck because if you follow the directions and properly clean the windshield it will work fine. It just a result of heat and age. No big deal.

Actually tbird6, the stock rearview mirror repair glue kit does not work on these type('03) of mirrors that have the rain sensor built between the bracket. Jaguar used a glue coated foam spacer sliver that fills the ring gap because of a raised bevel on the connecting surface area. Even the pros at the windshield (safelite) glass got it wrong. The traditional flat area to adhear the device to the glass does not exist. You would have known that if you had ever actually seen one! But thanks for lookin' out.
