Default Installed x-pipe on 2000 v8, still sounds incredibly tame...

So I had the mid factory bullet mufflers replaced with a magnaflow x-pipe. The car still sounds incredibly tame.

Looking at getting the rear resonators replaced - not going to straight pipe it, as it's a daily driver that sees lots of highway driving too.

What length mufflers do people go with? I'm thinking of doing a short body muffler instead of bullets (like a 14" dynomax ultraflow) Better to go with an offset? I know the exhaust is 2.25.

Thanks!

Your cats will be choked up and doing an excellent job of muffling the sound.

Don't mess with the rear mufflers, change the cats.

It's a regular v8, not an R - putting in hi flow cats wouldn't make it sound raspy?

She currently has 131k kilometers on the clock.

I can't imagine the labor charge installing 2 new cats. Installing high flow cats won't throw a CEL?

Did you do the vital change - i.e. the timing chain tensioners?

I'm confused as to what that has to do with exhaust and exhaust note?

But to answer your question, the tensioners were one of the first repairs I did on the car thanks to this forum.

It's that most owners do not realise they need doing.

You're wanting more noise but, as part of the "grace", Jaguar put effort into making the car quiet and refined.

+1 on Jaguar making the S-Type a luxury vehicle with refined sound.

If you want to change the rear silencers, have a look at this for only £645.83, exclusive of VAT and shipping:

https://www.adamesh.co.uk/quicksilver-jaguar-s-type-30--40--42---performance-sports-exhaust-system-864-p.asp

You can ring them to enquire if the silencers fit a 2000 with the 4.0 litre engine

Seems to be lots of exhaust threads involving the STR, but I appear to be catching flack when wanting to do something to an NA 4.0 s-type lol

All good, just figured I'd see if anyone on here done anything with their NA v8.

I see lots of threads on the high flow magnaflow cats on the STR and the difference it made, but being boosted helps there too. Not sure if the sound would be similar on an NA 4.0 v8.

Seems to be some that get CELs after doing the cats, and one of the items that seems to help is doing the O2 sensors at the same time.

I just kept my NA v8 (2000) going to 257K miles and it's still going - just saw it the other day
