Forgot to mention. Check the plugin where it goes to the xceiver. Maybe dirty or loose. The entire ignition does not have to be completely removed to access the xceiver. Remove switch from dash then pull it towards column to unplug main plug then there is enough room to remove ignition barrel using tsb as guide

My tech is doing all off this first because there are no new modules available just the entire assembly which he doesn't want to order if he can make it fail by "wiggling the wires". He's also going to try some Stabilitant 22 but since it's working now we're still in plug new in parts replacement and see if that fixes it mode.
I also found one (new) on a dodgy looking website for $48. Looks to be a scam.
There are other Ford xover's which might be able to have the electronics transfered to the original mount.

Thanks.

Hi Staatsof,

I've been reading through your thread, and when I got to the above post from September 24 I was confused and concerned. To whom were you directing these comments? From my reading, it appears that the other members who have responded have understood that you are unable to work on your cars yourself. Yet, since you are posting in this forum seeking help, we can only assume that your objective is to obtain information and ideas from other members that you will pass along to your mechanic. So why the snarky comment above?

Please help me understand.

Cheers,

Don

So I just got off of the phone with my mechanic and he's repaired the intermittent fault. Looks to me like I caused this over 10 years ago when I removed the IC and mistakenly cut a tiny wire tie because I thought I needed do that to remove the plug from the back of the IC when I was having my speedo issues and sent it off for repair. That wire tie did not need to be removed at that time and served as strain relief for entire larger IC cable. He was able to reproduce the issue by putting strain on the cable. That made the individual connectors of the modular plus for the PATS module become strained and unreliable. Some new lengths of wire and individual connectors and it's all done.Hurrah!

We hope ...

Yes he is but I am a.so going to say that had to be insistent about finding the smoking gun.
He knows how the various systems interact. As we were discussing the potential failure spots he thought it unlikely that the chip contained in that PATS collar had failed as opposed to a harness connector failure. So once I mentioned that the cluster had been sent out for repair of speedo clutches it was a n ah ha moment.

I picked up car today, all is well. I'd forgotten what a pleasure this car is to drive, even in a massive down pour on the way home.

glad you stuck with it Bob. They are a blast. You have been thru a lot with the car in the last couple years. Now time for your reward driving it. I have been there my friend. Still enjoy the short freeway onramps and up to speed in 3 seconds

The thing is I may now sell the car but not cheap or while hiding a major flaw. For those who frequent YouTube there's a very long time Jag fan, Harry Metcalf Harry's Garage on there who also used to run EVO magazine. His show is really quite good. Recently, he decided to sell some of his cars because it was getting to become a bit much. He's like a mini British Leno He's done show outlining how much it cost in time and money during 2024. I suspect that's at least part of what motivated this. The trouble is he got rid of two of the most interesting cars he had one of which he had just finish an amazing and sensitive restoration with a lot of improvements, that was an XK12C 5 speed. The other is a red Espada which is how I found out about his show because I'm also an Espada owner. I don't have Harry's resources and now that my health is failing, a bit better lately, I can't finish my plans with that car unless I win the lottery. He really struggled with that car but he did end up take the car on some amazing European adventures with it and that was nice to see. Apparently his wife loved that car whereas my wife hates mine due to two epic trip disasters with it including flooding during a torrential downpour along the Hudson river and having the gas filter impacted by rust which resulted in our staying in flea bag hotel frequented by hookers and other lowlifes. So here's the auction and he got good but stil break even money for the Jag and pretty predictable money for the Espada. That car had some good work done but it's not original and already had new paint and interior when he bought it.

Poke around some of his other episodes I think you'll enjoy them

At his urging I looked at very clean Jag Fpace with the 542 HP V* which is an evolution of V8 found in the STR and according to my mechanic a lot of the same issues with coolant hoses/pipes etc. I looked on here and found very similar stories so I decided I wanted something different with different foibles. So in one afternoon I drove the Fpace V8 542 Hp (it's a beast but a bit small for me) and the 6Cylinder 395HP (which I found to be a more refined car) and the one I took home ... A 2022 Maserati Levante with a 3.8L V8 twin turbo Ferrari motor that makes 545 HP. This is are which I am forbidden to work as that would void my extended 24 month warrant. yes it is fast as ****. I now own 4 Maseratis, the Lamborghini (Leno owns 2), a 2015 Lincoln MKX and a 454 1999 Chevy Suburban (tow vehicle for the racecar. At 74 my plate is over loaded!

Well thank god I now have Maserati with a warranty because it sounds like the old STR lunched it's SC last night. So on to a new repair of the SC which was completely inspected, cleaned and deemed to not need new bearings just 2K miles and about 2 years ago. My mechanics is going to try and make a Saturday AM house call and give me his prognosis.
This car just continues to suck money down it's rat hole.

seeing as the charger was inspected i would think the coupler exploded or low or no oil in the charger. I am leaning towards the coupler as you cant have driven much since the starter issue was resolved. Best of luck Bob

Luck left my lexicon with this car a while ago ...

The stock coupler wasn't put in when the SC was overhauled because the original was close to failing like that.
It made some noise that concerned me so I checked with some guys on here in either Australia or New Zealand that had put the higher boost pulley on along with the solid coupler and was counseled to not worry.

This car grows tiresome. It takes up space, sucks up money and is of very little use.

But I'll stop kvetching about the car in intermittent thread because that problem did get solved, at least I think so ...
I'll take up the coupler /SC issue back the original thread where I recommishend the car.
